Suboxone Weaning Question

Hi All..I have been taking 8 mg of suboxone 2 times a day from  April 23, 2012 until June 12, 2012.  Then my doctor  had me start taking only one pill a day of 8 mg.  I've been doing this since June and I seem to be handling it just fine.  I have to admit that I did slip a few times and took two pills in one day.  I am almost out of medication and need to go see my doctor again.  I think he is going to prescribe 4 mg of sub two times a day.  I'm scared to death that it isn't going to be enough.  Has anybody else had any experience with this?  I know I need to taper and eventually get off of this medication, I'm just scared to take the plunge.  I keep reading so many horror stories.  Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.  Before going on the suboxone, I was taking 20+ vicodins 750 strengh.  I wasn't strong enough to go cold turkey or taper.  Suboxone saved my life.  It is late here and I am going to bed but I will check back tomorrow for any responses.  Thank you!

Thank you so much for your reply.  Seems like everything I read here about subs are of a negative nature.  You mentioned that it's nothing like coming off of pills or meth.  Seems like the general consensus around here is the opposite.  Alot of people say that trying to quit subs is harder than quitting their drug of choice.  Hmmmm....   Guess I'll just have to take the plunge and find out myself!  I need to be free of pills!!!

I went from 8mg to 6mg with minor symptoms on second day. Third day was the same as 8mg, easy. Fourth day I took 4mg and had the same experience. I am now on 2mg and am beginning to feel a little achey and have sleep problem. That's as far as I've made it so far and must say it has been really easy compared to dope sick from methadone, my DOC. I found dropping 2mg at higher doses fine, but now I'm down to 2mg and am about to drop to 1mg from 2 and then .5 and then shavings in 3 day periods. Subs have about a 60 hour half life, so that is why I go a minimum of 3 days between reductions. The longer your on them and the higher the dose, the slower I would taper. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. So far nothing much to complain about. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I have been on 8 mg 4 about 4 yr's now.My doctor never lowered my dose ever.So i took myself of them.Not anything ,but a little flu feeling 4 abt 4 day's, i do keep alot of sub's just in fear i may want to start taking hydro's again i see him now 4 something diffrent.Don't be scared it's NOTHING like coming of pill's meth etc...Mel:)
