Suboxone for vicodin addiction?

I have been addicted to vicodin for close to 5 years. Through these years I have increased to 120 - 150 mg/day. I have tried to quit once, about 3 years ago. The wd was miserable, and here I am hating life and my situation addicted to vicodin. When I heard about suboxone, it sounded like a miracle answer. The more I educate myself, though, i am feeling leery. I need help. I HAVE to quit. Reading posts in this forum has been more uplifting and educational than any other. So here it is, my first post. Any suggestions whether or not suboxone is right?

Hi there. I was on Suboxone for many years and have been off of it for two years. And i will tell you this:

I went they wd from my pills soooo many times I lost count. I always went back to using, and did so rather quickly. I never stayed clean for long. Sunoxone gave me time. The time to get help, get into a great therapy program, time to go to meetings, stop addictive behaviors, basically I was able to learn to live clean while on Suboxone and prepare what life would be like for me when I got off of the Suboxone. You don't get high off if Suboxone so the motivation, if you truly want to get clean, is there to takes off of the steps to making sobriety come first in your life.

I can only speak for me personally, but Suboxone worked for me. I followed every single thing my doctor said to so, remained in aftercare even after Suboxone and I haven't looked back. I wish you luck in your decision. Do what's right for YOU!

i tried suboxone first but stopped right away because of all the side effects.  It also felt stronger then vicodin to me.  I am glad i did because once i found this website and starting reading about suboxone, i learned that suboxone has its own nasty withdrawal and it lasts longer then vicodin.  My final quit was cold turkey and so far so good.  I really think most of this in mental.  Once you remove as much fear as possible, and take it a day at a time, it becomes doable.  Reading and posting on this website seriously saved my life.  You can do this!
