Suboxone

I will never take another pain med again.  I promise that to God, on my kids, lives, my wife's life.  I was recently in a horrific accident and have a traumatic brain injury.  I had quadruple painful neck surgery so I didn't become paralyzed.  I still wouldnt use the strong pain meds they gave.  Ive been on suboxone for 5 years because I never want to go thru w/d's again.  That's what I don't understand about addiction because I just have no desire to take anything again, the w/d's cured me of my addiction to vicodin.  I am on 2mg of suboxone, go down to 1, can I quit then?  What should I do?  I appreciate any feedback.  I know I am a coward but am not afraid to admit it.

WE have all been in the "FEAR" state of mind. The unknown is scary! I don't know much about suboxone but Ive read many posts where people have successfully quit using it! Sorry about ur accident and pain levels. BEST of luck to you....

Hi badger5 and welcome to the forum.

I'm fairly new here too in this community, but let me say something.
You are NOT a coward but a very brave man (profile says male)
to admit this. "The truth shall set you free"!

My feeling is that you should consult your treating/prescribing doctor, before any attempt in getting off Suboxone.

I have no personal experience with addiction, substance abuse or withdrawal, but consider yourself blessed for:

1. Having survived a horrific accident, even with your serious injury, as there many things that you can do, more than what you may think sometimes.
Ask me,  a survivor of 2 horrific near fatal accidents, none being my own fault and very grateful to be well and alive to talk about it.

2. Not having any desire to go back to that dark place of addiction to vicodin or ANYTHING else.
I know someone who "traded" addictions, thinking they're clean now.
From valium to 26oz bottle of whiskey, pot and 2-paks of cigarettes a day!
It's not easy for most people, but definitely having a supportive environment
does help and you are at the right place for this.
My purpose for being here is to learn and to offer a friendly gesture of support and who knows, maybe some advice, from my background in therapy, holistic health and other alternative stuff I do.

Best wishes my friend!
Niko

You've been on 5 years?!  Well it's an opioid so helping with your pain.. 2mg seems to be where people start thinking of jumping off. I don't have experience with sub but others do and will post.
