Where is that Taper schedule you mentioned posted?
I have been reading these comments and can relate very much to what is being said. I have also injured my back, but I have done it three times, with 2 spinal fusions and permanent nerve damage. I have been taking Tramadol for almost 10 years and recently lost my prescription at a hotel and didn't realize how bad I was hooked on this medicine until I didn't have any to take and started having the withdrawals very badly. My doctors told me I would have to take some kind of medicine to control the pain for the rest of my life and recommended Ultram, because it wasn't addicting. After years of taking the medicine, it came out that it was a very addicting drug and this was confirmed when I had WDs. I really am grateful for the person who posted this schedule to wean off this medicine, because it has helped keep the WDs to a minimum and I am working towards being free of this. A good way a professional put it to me was to listen to your body and when you start feeling the symptoms, that you need to take a pill and go off this medicine slowly. Remember, Tramadol actually changes chemicals in your brain and it takes time for your brain to aclimate itself back to normal, so you have to take it as slow as your body lets you know!
I am taking 1500 mg per day sometimes more. I have one script left for 120 pills. Should I taper off or just quit c/t. I am not in any pain anymore I have been getting them from my doc just for the high. My doc first gave them to me because I hurt my back nothing serious, but all I had to do was tell him I was still in pain. A couple months ago I had to go back for my Klonopin refill. (the doc makes me come in every 6 months to get refills) while I was there for the Klonopin he gave me 3 scripts 6 months of Klonopin. 6 reflls of tramadol 50 mg 120 qty. Darvon 30 pills. The last 2 scripts I did not even ask for. He just asked if my back still hurt, I said yes and he gave me the scripts, By the way I lied I was not in any pain.
As I said in another post I was really addicted to Ultram for a long time...and I just had to quit cold turkey there was no tapering off for me because I too would put it off for another day.
But gong cold turkey isn't for everyone I can understand that. Depends on how many you are taking a day. I would say if you can try to atleast go maybe to 2 a day. Good Luck to you!
The recommended taper for most opiates is around the figure you stated. 5-10 percent every 5 days or so sounds reasonable. The key is to not drop dosages until you feel comfortable on your current dose.
I couldn't manage a taper - kept putting it off for another day. I went CT 1500mg 0r > a day to 0. It's really not too hard, 2-3 (long weekend) to slough off the dope, now just trying to manage the RA and fibromyalgia that introduced me to Tramadol in the first place.
