Taking 8 - 12+ Tylenol w/ Codeine a day.. feel hooked

I started taking Tylenol w/ Codeine (8mg) back in October. I take about 8 - 12 per day, and one day I decided I wasn't going to take any, and I was really irritable. My whole world turned to the negative. I even came back late from break just to run to the nearest pharmacy (pretty far away from work) to get more pills.

I realize I am addicted, but I also realize that there is a lot of hope for me, since I'm not hooked on anything like oxycontin or heroin.

What is the best method for me to quit? Cold turkey or tapering?

I am 23 years old and love my family very much, but I find myself snapping at them sometimes. I have a girlfriend in China, which adds to the stress, and I have very very few friends. On my days off work, I find myself depressed and pacing with nothing to do. This could be a separate issue, however.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi im 18 and i'v been taking motrin or tylenol. about 2-8 pills a day. Im in college and its hard in all kinds of ways. Im going to an out-state college, have no family here, very depressed about not been able to play a certain port in college, failing some classes and slacking. I started to feel pain in my knees, then my wrist and other places. thats when i started to take the pills and haven't stop cause it comes back. then sometimes i get these headaches so it makes me take more... when im alone, i feel lost and have no clue what to do. See I came to this college wanting to play softball for college and even for the USA team... When i met the coach she told that i wouldn't be able to do it cause of my class schedule. After that i was a mess... I felt as if my whole life had been crushed, really believe that i let everyone down, and most of all let myself down. When i called my family to tell them the news.. my dad told this(the exact words), "so you're just going to give it up?' Then my mum told me too," everyone expected you to be playing softball and now you are just letting it go...this made feel even more depressedand i was with her. I felt ashamed and wanted to cry. she basically made feel like i was dirt. my dad made feel worse...everytime i think about it or look at picture of my dead coach, it makes me tear up and for some reason i keep them up to punish myself. Yes I secertly cut myself and just recently i burned myself. I try to stop but all this pain inside craws to what it know best to get rid of the pain. Now that my little sister is starting to get into softball, it always reminds of the days i play softball. I help her and give her tips. I was always pushed by my dad to be the  best and never give up. I remember when he told that 2nd place is basically the first loser. That why it was hard for me when he told me that i was givin up. I take the pills cause it takes the pain away physically. I really don't know what to do? some one help me, please?

you'll probably feel it.  i did.  just be glad it's a milder one and not methadone.  it's the worst.  never let anyone give it to you.

I also took the same tylenol 1's for a long time - about the same amount as you - because they were easy to get (I guess you live in Canada or in the UK where you can just buy them OTC?). Anyway, I found it was easy to stop as they're not very strong, and the acetominophen is going take a toll on your liver if you keep up the 12 a day. It's good you're thinking about it now, and haven't graduated to higher levels of stronger painkillers where it would be much more difficult to stop. I think when I stopped taking them (it was a few years ago), I just stopped and didn't have any w/d, but everyone is different. I would see what others say on this forum and use what advice you think will work for you. It's just good that you're recognizing it now. Good luck!
