Taper or cold turkey?

Please help me... I have come to the point that I am ready to stop taking Norco for good. I had hip replacement surgery 9 months ago and should have been off the Norco 8 months ago. But have been taking them for 3 years now and I am so afraid of the withdraws... I have experienced the withdraws cold turkey and its a living hell, but I dont know if I have the will power to NOT  take them if I have them to taper off... Is it really possible to not go through withdraws if I taper and how do I start? How does it work? My family does not know how many Norco I take or that I am physically addicted to them. I am starting a new job in 8 days. I am so stressed out, and feel alone.

If you click on "MyMedHelp" in the upper right, you see an option to go to your home page or your profile. If you choose profile, in the left side of the page you will see what posts you have written. You can access them from your "home page' option too, as it lists your choices on the left vs actually seeing some of your written materil in the "profile" option...:)

I didnt see these answers, as I am new to this sight. Didnt know how to find them. I ended up going cold turkey. I am on day 5 and feel like I am turning a corner but still dont feel very well. Thank you for your help and advise. I ened up starting a new thread and kept an eye on it so I could follow it better. This site has been so helpful. I am hoping that by tomorrow I can go out and maybe take a yoga class and not feel so isolated. This has seriously been the hardest longest week of my life, I never want to go through this again.

Tapering takes alot of willpower.  Is there anyway you could talk with one of your family members about this and have them hold the pills for you?  The wd's wouldn't be as bad.  You arent alone here so keep talking with us~~sara

Relax.....You are going to be ok....Cold Turkey is the only way to go!  It will be a little rough but only for a few days.  You will need to get some supplies....Valarian Root, Melatonine, protein powder, high dose multivitamin, and some antioxidants.....You can easily be detoxed in 8 days if you jump now.....It is rough but it is not that bad.....Tapering is for the birds....It is unnecessary torture....You will only feel really bad for about 3-4 days but after that each day you will start to feel better and better.....Let me know if I can help....I have a lot of detox secrets!
