I am trying to taper off On doing 8-10 Percs a day.Lets just say 10. And I have Nobody to trust to help me by holding my pills. I need a plan, and I can't seem to come up with one. I have been trying to taper off on my own But I slip and end up doing even more than I normally do .I wake up in the morning and the first thing I do Is go to the bathroom its coming out both ways. I think its because I don't take them at night and when I wake up My body is Detoxing I throw up and have Diarhea, Then I take a two pills and then in about half an hour I start to feel normal, The good news is I dont wake up in the middle of the night.I do sleep, But waking up is awful I feel drained. I take two AdvilPms before going to sleep. Can someone that has tapered plz Help me.

Hi - percs were my DOC as well and I tapered too.  Here's my tip in addition to everyone elses:

On one day before I tapered, I stopped ct to see how long I could handle the wds...I made it to 10 hours but it was really bad...but that was my baseline.  I then cut my pills in half and set up a taper, similiar to above.  The taper left me a bit uncomfortable but after two weeks, I quit and was OK, e.g. worked, family and friends, etc.  I'm almost 6 months clean and moving forward...I love being off the meds...really :-).

The only way I could quit my 10yr  8/day Oxy 40mg addiction was to do a rapid taper over the course of a week where I dropped to 5/day for 2 days then 4/day for 2 days,,,and after finaly reaching 1/day for 2 days I took the rest that my friend was holding for me (it really helped) and flushed them down the toilet. The withdrawls will last up to a week after that but wont be nearly as bad as if you go cold turkey. It has been about a week for me and I feel great riding my bike every day.

You'll be sooo happy once you get through it.

If you "need" the valium , take it. If you are sleeping, and generally ok, don't.
By generally ok, I mean you feel can manage without additional drugs.
I took a few xanax on day 4-8 of my C/T withdrawals to help with sleep.

There is no trick to getting off the drugs..  If you taper, You, MUST stick to it, else you will likely fail.
Quitting Cold Turkey has it's battles too, such as going back on  because one cannot stand the withdrawal symptoms.  I was one of them very tempted recently.

Yesterday, I was somewhat productive after 2 weeks of hell.  Still, I am not over it.
I have several symptoms that are lingering.  But I do feel better.

You will too.  Go For It!

i had been on about 5-6 lortab 10's for quite awhile (years) but also managed to sometimes creep up to 10 a day....immediately, when i decided i wanted to taper, i just went right back down to my original prescribed dosage of 5/day....no taper there....just from 10 to 5 and felt nothing, no withdrawals, no nothing...mentally, it was harder, but nothing physically....then went almost immediately to 3 a day for about a week, then to 2.5 a day.....still, didn't really notice anything....so, as you can see, it really 1) depends upon the person individually (i may not have been the norm, then again, you may have the same experience) and 2) it is SUCH a  mental game, at least when you taper.....and at least for me....tapering is for the strong and determined (and also for the scared, scared of what going c/t off of meds might feel like!)  sometimes some anxiety might hit, but for me, i didn't feel it, and this is from someone who had been on ativan for 5 years and had successfully tapered off of that prior to tapering off of lortabs....sleep issues?  probably, but there are SO many resources on here for sleep ideas and so many whom will share what worked for them....1000 mg of magnesium at night before bed works wonders (and my doctor actually prescribed it, as well, come to find out)

long tapers ARE hard, so try not to draw it out TOO long....but slow and steady does win the taper race, so best of luck to you and many, many blessings for a safe and successful taper....you CAN do it....just stick with it and keep your end goal always in sight...

luv,
kim

u will feel anxiety and may have sleep probs...i did not but many do...valium is safer than many benzos like xanax or ativan...use it sparingly...like in little pieces if u can during the first week or so of detox...be sfae and get clean

Ever see those monkeys?  They know they need to push the button on that box to get their food.  We need one of those on a TIMER!!!!! LOL

Seriously, monkey,,
RE  READ my post.  IMHO, you should taper 20% off of each  subsequent dose.  Again,

if you start with 10.
your first taper for 5-7 days should be EIGHT.
Then for the next 5-7 days, it should be 80% of the EIGHT, =  6.4 to 6.5 pills.
Then for the next 5-7 days, it should be 80% of the 6.5  =      5 or 5.2 pills a day.
Then for the next 5-7 days, it shoudl be 80% of the 5.2 =  4.1 or 4 pills a day.
Then for the next 5-7 days, it should be 80% of the 4   =  3.2 pills a day.
As so forth till you are down to 1 a day, then quit...

Remember to try and keep your blood levels somewhat even during the taper, by splitting up the doses equally.  Since you take the most in the morning, you are aclimated to the higher levels, and then the drop.  If you don't feel withdrawals by the next day, that is a good thing!  In the beginning of the taper, you might take a slightly higher "part" of the daily dose.  See how you feel.

In my experience, tapering was a breeze.  It was staying off for the long haul that was hard.  I am still sick, and for a moment, thought, "do I need to take my stuff?".  almost 5 years does that to ya.  Whenever I take on a task, I immediately think of taking.  For some reason, my DOC gave me energy, and focus, thus " a job  well done! "..

Now I have to do everything the old fashioned way...  in misery!!!!

Good luck and stay into the taper.. you will land smooth, with only a few bumps.  This is my wish for you..!!!

U know...it would be great if u could like take your pills to a safety deposit box like thing with a rule that u can check it like once a day...and get ur pills then!  LOL.....i had a hard time finding someone to dole mine out as my neighbor told me she had overdosed the month before...did not know so she was out...no way i woulda asked my parents or my kids....i ended up asking a fellow addict to hold them...sounds risky doesnt it/...she did not take even a piece of those pills i gave her...she understood and i would go by there each night to pick them up

I did it.....and it was very easy for me.  After, about 50 prior attempts.  I guess you just have to really want it, or as the above poster said......realistically it wont work.  I consider myself one lucky son of a gun.......

It took me months to taper-off and looking back I would not recommend taking that long.  I lost a lot of weight......was literally bed ridden and passed out a few times from being so malnourished and weak........set out what you have for the day, as if it is all you have and do your best.  I wish i had better advice.......I did use the visualization technique every night when I went to bed.......anything is worth a try.......

I wish you the best......

Nauty..........

this taper looks good....but would probably take a month or so and alot of discipline...i would not be able to do it on my own....i had to give mine to someone and taper down from 80 mg in 10 days and quit....i would have lost my motivation had i tapered for this long and would have never quit...but it is a great plan for someone extremely disciplined..or who has help to dole them out.....even handing over my pills finally after failing to taper on my own for 6 months...i still found ways to cheat in that 10 days....but it did get my dose down a bit....i took way more than i was supposed to the day before i quit...but i quit on quit day and that was my plan...and just got it done....everyone has a way that works the best for them....quicker may be better for u if u have trouble sticking to a taper...u need to do it in a way that fits ur personality and ur goals

Thank you, so If I am taking 10 pills a day I should reduce that by 20%? that would be 8 a day for a week then 6 the next? Should I Use any Valiums to help with the anxiety or that would be worse? Thanks

REMEMBER, if you are feeling the effects of your doses, you need to be more aggressive by reducing your individual doses.

Not "papering".  it was meant to be "tapering"
Sorry

Also your nite time dose should probably be the highest and last to let go when ready.
The taper assumes 3 equal or 4 equal doses per day.  I did my first 2 with 3 doses a day.  Wish I had never relapsed.

Good luck

The key to papering is that you HAVE to stay on the taper. If you can't, then you need a "coach" to dole them out.  Tapering is the easiest way to come down.  At least, It was for me.  I quit this last time C/T, and as I have said many times, "the worst 2 weeks of my life".. And it was by far.  I was taking 150mg of hydros a day.
The oxys in percs are stronger I think.
If you can cut your use down by 20% the first week,
Then 20 the second, and  20 the third week and so on.
Keep in mind it is 20% of the dose you are taking at the time, NOT 20% of the original dose.
ie..  10-20% would be 8 a day.
8-20% would reduce it to approx 6.5 a day
6.5-20%, would take you to 5ish a day,
5-20% to 4 a day
4-20% to 3.25 or 3 if you can handle it.
3-20% would be just over 2 a day, and so forth.

Everyone has their idea of a good taper.  Your body should tell you if you are going too fast.
The key is NOT to get high at any time during your taper.  You must not feel the effects of the pills from the time you decide to taper.  This will net you a smoother landing than going c/t, I think.

Stay strong and save yourself the grief of going cold turkey if you can.  But stay strong.
