Tension Headaches

I am prescribed Fioricet (50/325/40) for tension headaches.  I am taking 6 a day (2 every 4 to 6 hours) and was wondering if taking this medication that frequently can lead to physical dependence.  I am taking it as prescribed and have constant headaches (I have had jaw reconstruction surgery, have extensive nerve damage and also suffer from bruxism...) but am scared to become physically addicted to the medication.  I have been taking it for a week now and am scared to just stop because of the horror stories I've read on the internet about people having seizures and whatnot.  Could someone please help me with this?

Hi and Welcome-  Yes, Fioricet can lead to physical dependence and addiction at the dose you're taking; especially taking it every day.

Only take it when you absolutely need it and do read the drug info that came with this RX, as Openmind suggested.  Fioricet can and does cause rebound headaches and shouldn't be abruptly stopped. I don't think stopping after one week would be problematic but taper off to be safe.  Good luck!

It contains a barbiturate. It causes psychological dependence, and physical dependence if taken long enough.  It's not to be stopped suddenly. If and when you want to stop it you'll need to do a long slow and gradual taper program. When you get your scripts you should have an info sheet that goes along with it. I hope the prescription helps you with your headache pain. Those can be really rough. I wish you the best.
