Tramadol effects?

I'm on week 5 off Hydrocodone, first of all!  Yaaaay!  Still craving the stuff though, but less and less it seems.

Since I still have pain, now and then, I have been prescribed Tramadol, rather than the narcotics.  What are the narcotic effects, if any, of Tramadol?  I've only taken 1 or 2 a day, but with a hysterectomy coming soon I'm concerned for my needs for pain meds again.  If I have to take more Tramadol, how will that effect me?

Thanks for your help.

I agree with all...I thought I'd kicked it twice, but got right back on it...the WD's are terrible...I'm back again weening myself off of them, 3 per day until tomorrow then down to 2.5   Yes, I did this about a month ago til I was at 0.   I hope to be off completely a week from now.  Much harder than kicking vicodin or percocet.

I am not going back on them again.

throw them away...1-2 will lead to 3-4 then 5-6...I only recently became aware that it may be a source of my depression and perhaps anxiety and I'm not going to live this way any more, thank you.

even if you take 1 or 2 a day if you take it for a long time a few months you will go threw nasty wd I would take Tylenol before i touched tramadol again ....Trust me i took 30 pills for two three week and went threw nasty wd now that did not stop me from continuing to take it because i became addict in 30 pills .

Thanks everybody.  I can't take any NSAIDs, including Advil, or even aspirin, because I had a gastric bypass.  They're associated with ulcers and gastric bleeding, so anyone who's had gastric surgery, of any kind, can't take them.  This is the reason I was prescribed Hydro.

So, if I understand from your posts above, Tramadol has an antidepressant effect?  As well as a narcotic effect?  I'm only take maybe one or two a day.  Sometimes I don't take one at all.

stop the tram NOW . WDs are H ell make hydro look like a picnic .If you need something after you hyster the make sure everyone know about your addiction doctors and so on .Then put other safeguards in place have someone else pick up your meds from the pharmacy and dependence them to you as soon as you start feeling better switch to advil.. Hopefully it wont be bad for you at all i did not need anything other then otcs when i had mine but everyone is different.

Tramadol is highly addictive and has a much worse WD than hydrocodone.  I am speaking from experience.  I still have pain too, but I have learned that I can't take a pill for everything that hurts.  That is the only way I can handle it, because if I took something, I'd be right back where I was in March.......YUCK!

I would throw away the tramadol!!!  I had a hysterectomy in late March, after I had gone through WDs, and for the most part, I took advil.  The pain pills that I did take were given to me by someone.  You just can't be too careful!!! : )

I agree with Back2Me, like you I have been prescribed both pain meds at various times....the Lortabs are sooooo much easier to kick for me than the Tramadol ever has been...........Tramadol with give you all the w/d's of a typical narcotic pain reliever plus w/d's from and anti-depressant to boot b/c it also acts like an SSRI....   Just my personal experience but the Lortabs have never effected me the way the Trams did when I went off them............I'm on Day 10 off Tram. and still suffering;(   I would think long & hard b4 ever using it.

If you thought hydro was hard to wd from that's a cakewalk compaired to tram. Don't take it. Search around it's really really bad all the way around.
