Xanax question

So I'm a month off tramadol.... ! :) but my dr prescribed me low dose Xanax to combat the horrible panic attacks that came with the withdrawals. My question is this.. How long until my body becomes addicted to the medication? I am prescribed 30  .5MG pills and the bottle says I can take 1-2 pills 3x daily as needed. I never take that much. My first bottle has lasted me about a month and it was only supposed to be a 5 day supply. I just got my refill the other day. I am however getting worried because the last maybe 5 days or so I have been taking 1-2 pills before bed to get some decent rest since I'm very anxious at night for some reason. I'm wondering if I should start weaning off them at night or if its ok to just stop taking them? How long until you develope a physical dependence and then experience withdrawals?

Thank you all for your fast replies! :) yes I am being VERY careful with this medication, I never take it during the day unless its a severe panic attack and that has only been once or twice and I only took one pill not the two I am allowed to take. Like I said I am using them to basically relieve my extreme anxiety at bedtime and I do not want my body to become dependent. If I can ask what are the symptoms of benzo withdrawal? I've never been through it before as I have never abused them and certainly don't have the desire to.

Xanax is tricky also. It is very addictive and your body can become easily dependent on it. I don't think you are abusing it at this point. But possibly your body has become dependent. I too suffer from anxiety esp at night and have insomnia. I would talk to your doctor. There are other medications that are not in the benzo class that can really help with the anxiety. I would hate for you to awaken a sleeping giant. I was recently prescribed temazepam for sleep. I haven't even gotten the prescription filled. I too like you are afraid of becoming addicted. It sounds like you are being responsible with this medication at this point. keep in mind it is one of the most abused medications out there. Good Luck and check with the doctor. Maybe trazadone? ((hugs))

you should def taper off those...you shouldn't go CT off Xanax or other benzos....hope you are feeling better...and yes, i'd be careful with those..you don't wanna trade one addiction for the other....i would also def talk to your doctor before you start to come off them.  Good luck in your journey to a free life off pills!  keep pushing thru!
