Tramadol withdraws

This isn't easy to write, but over a year ago my father threw me the half empty bottle of 50mg tramadol and said try this for my chronic wrist pain, and since then i haven't stopped. I have no insurance and so iv'e been getting it online for 140 bucks a bottle of 180. i take 8 pills a day. The biggest reason this is hard to say is because i can't lie and say its used for my wrist anymore. I can honestly say i take it because it makes me feel better, it makes me feel like a better person, clear minded, more energetic and productive, i do enjoy the drug very much, i feel like it makes my life easier and better. it doesnt give me the "high" that narcotic pills give which i like. But with all that out of the way, im out of tramadol and cannot afford to buy more for 2 weeks. So whether i like it or not i'm going to have to go along with the W/D effects. It's my first day and as far as i know, the worst day of my life. Is there anything to help get through this? or what can i do to make it easier? i almost feel like i have to tell myself to put one foot in front of the other in order to get to the bathroom right now. I have nothing to do right now. i got plenty of time to be at home, but i just dont know if i can make it. Thanks for any support or ideas.

I agree with vicki595... in your first post you are asking for help.  Then in your second post you are giving advice to yourself, saying good luck and acting like another person.

I'm glad you are pain free.... (and please don't take this the wrong way) but using some pain pills for 3 weeks doesn't give you enough time to even get addicted.  Many if not everybody who comes here would love to go back to week 3 and be done had they (we) known where we were headed.  I  can't speak for other people here but I have years of opiate use for chronic back pain...  and had I known how hard it would be to get off the drugs that help me, I would have rather just dealt with the chronic back pain alone.

I took Tramadol for severe back and leg pain along with numb toes. I used a cane to get around. I refused treatment of steroid injection in my spine. I took Tramadol in the am and pm. I did that for about 3 weeks along with Naproxyn. The stretching I did helped me. I am now pain free and not taking anything at all.  This drug was a blessing to get me through some very painful days.  I had not ever heard of the drug before the ortho guy wrote the script.

jcorps~~   I read both of your posts and I'm confused...do you share your screen name with another person?    You sound like two different people on each of your posts...

Anyway, you got some good advice. Stay away from caffeine,as well, for a few weeks.

Please your are fine and do not buy into all the fear you may read here.
People mean well here however it's to easy to buy into horror stories .
It's good you quit there are some very good anti-steroid meds that will help your wrist if you still have "legit" pain.
The reason you feel so bad it Not the opiate part it's the AD part this is what gets everyone that uses trams. You need something that will work with your serotonin levels for a few days and you will be fine. I tell about this on my post coming off trams. However if you wish to go the natural way pick up some ST. John Wort standardize extract at a local health food store .
This will help. There are also many amino's that can help you. But what you do not want is anything that will make you feel speedy. Stay away from Tyrosine it's good for some drugs but I and others found it not good for Trams.
The best thing for you now is to know that it will pass and you are fine. You just need a bit of help with your serotonin.
Rule of thumb here anything that will give you a calming effect is good to use.
There are many herbs for this also.
One more thing I suggest work on not allowing anything to make you fearful.
This forum can be a help but it can also hinder you. The people seem to mean well here but too much reading is not going to help you and lastly make sure you exercise it does not matter what kind nice long walks are great.

pm me if you like

You are fine

I agree with madtram Tramadol is an opiate and highly addictive. The next few weeks are going to be pretty hard the W/D is real and *****. And it sounds like that's the only option for you I would try to buy some of those natural vitamin that help with the affects. They are cheaper than the drug and may help alleviate some of the symptoms your feeling.

Good Luck and congrats this is the first step to getting off a drug you don't need to take long term. It may not feel like it now but you will get though this and you will be better for it.

Keep posting

All the best

Please take this opportunity to quit.  Tramadol does act on the same opiate receptors as vicodin etc & has all the tolerance issues of narcotics but with a kicker, if you keep increasing your dose as many do because they like the feel, you have a real risk of seizure.  There are plenty of posts on here from people who have started in your position & before too long found themselves taking 20 pills a day.   There are also plenty who have reported seizures at these high doses.

One of the reasons you feel so lousy is that tramadol contains an antidepressant, very similar to effexor & really does need to be tapered off.   Ideally, find yourself an md to get a prescription & a taper plan.  This would be a much better investment than giving it to the online pill sharks.

If this is not an option, check out the link to the Thomas recipe on the bottom right hand side of this page.  Many of the ingredients will also help with tram withdrawal, in particular, the immodium for the runs, tyrosine for energy & 5htp or St John's Wort can help with depression, (don't ever take those last 2 if you are still taking tramadol).

This probably sounds alarmist but the warning bells are ringing.  Because of the tolerance factor, it's also common to eventually get withdrawals just by staying on the same dose for a while.   Forget feeling good, do you really want to sign back up for a drug that will cost you more & more just to feel functional.

Best wishes.

Hi, I would have to tell you that I'm very proud of you to take the first step!! Now the hard part starts. Having alot of open time really isn't a valuable thing to you right now. Stuck in your own mind alone will tempt you more to get more. My suggestion would be surround yourself with others that have your well being at heart. Then I would find a local support group in your area. AA or NA. This really helps break up alot of dead time. It also alows you to interact with others that are living moment by moment. You never know going to one of those places you could be just what they needed to save someone else...... Good Luck Hun!!

This might not be the best advise, but I would scrounge up some money to get more now then wean off slowly.  The next two weeks are going to be complete hell.  I don't know much about the drug your on but if today is already that bad... its only gonna  get worse.  Don't let this take over your life.  Wean off now before you can't later.  I have one month left weaning off oxycodone... its been a long road that started with chronic back pain and ended up making me feel better emotionally too.  So I know exactly where you are coming from.  But I just made a choice that I don't want to have to depend on drugs to make me feel better.  I'm not even myself anymore... and now I'm fighting to get me back.  You should do the same before this drug turns you into someone your not.  Think about it and good luck.
