Tramadol

I have had a helluva fight with this 'safe' drug over the past ten years.  I am a professional and a well known in my community.  and have had this secret addiction for 10 years off and on but now the time has come to quit after my addiction has gotten me in legal trouble manipulating a prescription.  I knew this was coming...I have been off tramadol for a week but after two days of  ct, I had a dental surgery which gave me me oxycodone which I have tried to use sparingly to deal with the withdrawals of tramadol.  I'm using less than 40 mgs since last week 20 in the a.m. and 20 in the p.m   Is this helping me or prlonging the problem?  I only have a couple left and the anxiety sets in....which has been bad enough off the tramadol.  I have no refills and don't want any....Has anybody come completely off pain meds using another one like this?  Tramadol is very evil, that little AD trick they put in there should be disclosed. I also heard of an herb called Kratom, anybody got any opinions about it?

Hello Perk7. Kratom has been a absolute life saver for my withdraw symptoms. I got caught up in the wrong crowd awhile back and starting doing heroin, because I ran out of my prescription too soon due to tolerance. While Kratom can be addictive too the withdraw for me from Kratom wasn’t much at all compared to withdraw of that from heroin or other drugs such as oxy, morphine etc. Needles to say Kratom has kept me from heroin and all the other pharma company painkillers. It’s truly saved my life. Best of luck

There is also some great posts lower on this page under Tramadol Withdrawal - I know some current members there that would give you some great support.  Check it out.  If it gets bumped down on the page you may have to look at page 2 but it's there.

Welcome and glad you found this forum.  For many many of us it has become a great sense of support.

Yes there are many people who have had issues with Tramadol - that non-addictive option - RIGHT.  My 74 yr old mother in laws doctor just gave it to her and she was so excited he gave her a non-addictive option - I was so angry and made sure she knew that there are many people addicted to this med as it still acts like an opiate no matter what they say.

Are you able to taper your use of Trams with a doctors care?  That is always best but some of us don't have that option or don't choose to exercise it.  I don't have experience directly with Trams so I'm not going to give you any advice there - I will say some drugs are safer to taper yourself and others can be really dangerous and need to be monitored as seizures can happen.  If you can't speak to your doctor see if you can find a helpline to call to ask specifically about Trams.

As for Kratom - It is my understanding that this still acts on your opiates sensors so you are only changing up the substance you are using.  I recently read an article I believe it was in the Feb issue of Discover magazine about how this drug is sold as a legal alternative to heroin addiction but that there is no real supervision of it and it can be made by people in Russia and China and imported to U.S. and they don't care what is in it and don't clean up the process like a reputable chemist would do.  In my humble opinion, if you have decided the pills are running your life and you want to get off - you just make that decision and set your mind to it.  Withdrawal stinks but I just don't think there is any way around it - you gotta pay the piper at some point.

There are many over the counter and a few prescriptions that can give you some relief.  I just weaned myself down off hydro and then stopped when I was only taking 1 pill per day.    Look at the Thomas Recipe at the bottom under "most viewed health pages" at the bottom right of this page.

For me -  once i got through that first week of withdrawals I started feeling much better.  I just kept telling myself it would be no different than if I had the worst flu of my life and that is what I told most people.

I hope some of the members with direct Tram experience will weigh in here and give you some specific advice.  I know many members have come off and are moving ahead clean.

Coming here and introducing yourself is a first step.  I myself am 37 days off years of Hydrocodone use and I'm here to say it can be done.  I got started in pain management for chronic pain issues and just didn't want to be tied to these darn meds any longer.

Hope this helps you even just a little.
