Tramadol.....??

I have written this question a couple of times today and I don't see it show up anywhere?  Not sure where it is ending up?  Anyway...   I will try again.
I was addicted to pain meds...lortab & Vicodin.  Went on Suboxone about 3 years ago.  I have tapered down considerably over the last 2-3 months.  I take the film and was on just a sliver a day.  Roughly .25-30 mill per day.  I want to get off completely.  About a week ago, I found an old prescription of Tramadol, written by my chiropractor so not even a controlled substance.  I thought tramadol was like ibuprofen or aspirin, no big deal.  On Sunday, July 20th, 2014, I took two tramadol tablets in a.m.  50 Mill each.  Was 1st day not feeling suboxone WD's, and 1st day with-out any subox at all.  Monday.... same thing.  Two tablets of tramadol in a.m., no suboxone.  Yesterday I took 1&1/2 tablets of tramadol and did same thing today.  So...today is day 4 with no suboxone.  Now...  I decide to research tramadol and came across these horror stories.  S**T, I thought I found an answer.  Tomorrow, I am determined to start going cold turkey.  I can't imagine having too much trouble with tramadol WD's considering it's only been 4 days, right?  Anybody have suggestions?  I have had a hard time getting off suboxone completely, but desire to do so immensely.  Comments are appreciated.  Thx,

Hi there -

We do not allow dosing info or tapering schedules on this site. Please do not continue to give them.

Thanks,

Lethargy is not uncommon. Sub hangs around in your system for a long time given it's expanded half life.  The average half life of Sub is, on average, about 40 hours.  This means that HALF of the drug is till in your system after 40 hours and continues to decrease from there...

The ingredients in the Thomas Recipe will help... along with the passage of time.   You'll be fine; one foot in front of the other!

Just looked up Thomas recipe.  Heading to health store to purchase his recommendation.  I just need a bit of energy so I can still function at work.... so much to get done, deadlines to meet, etc.  Sounds like this "L-Tyrosine" gives a boost of energy?  Never heard of the stuff but heading to health food store right now.
The words of encouragement are very helpful.  I've never seen these type of sites.  Stumbled across this when I searched info out about the Tramadol.  Thanks!

The fact that you tapered down to such a low dose of subs will likely help you tremendously.  You definitely do not want to go back on the aubs after coming that far.

Keep up the good work....you got this!  The Tramadol shouldn't be a factor in w/ds at all, other than it probably delayed the onset of them to an extent.

Thanks for the comments.   I actually eat pretty healthy, but this lack of energy makes me want to order out, fast food, pizza, etc.  I generally, just about 4-5 nights per week, cook a piece of chicken on my bar-b-q, eat vegetables and a baked patato covered with beans.  (Not sour cream & butter).  But that always takes work.  I just need to drag myself to the kitchen & still eat healthy.
On a side note...   all I can say is what my experience is and/or has been.  Today being the 5th day off suboxone, those tramadol kind of helped me make the jump.  I'm feeling the wd's but I think mostly from the Subox.  Not planning on taking any more tramadol, but it did seem to help me make the jump to zero.  But...  day by day as they say.  Almost thru day 5.

the lack of energy seems to drag on for a long time.
make sure you are eating very healthy, taking good vitamins and amino acids, etc.  you could use ensure or some other protein shake if you need to.
exercise really does help get your energy up.
i am detoxing off 50 mcg fentanyl, it will be 2 weeks tomorrow.  for the first 7 or 8 days, i barely got out of bed.  i felt so weak, then started forcing myself to get up, play with my daughter and walk down to the pool and swim with her and walk back.  only then did i start getting any energy back.  wish i had not laid in bed as long as i did.

Hey there-

Awesome that you avoided the Tramadol Trap.  It's a nasty one.  The half life of sub is 21 days.  That means it will take that long to leave your system completely (in my understanding, someone will correct me if I'm wrong) the lethargy and insomnia will hang on the longest.  The best way to deal with this is good nutritional support and exercise.
Get that blood pumping as much as possible.  You need to get your endorphins going and they've been suppressed by the subs.
You are doing awesome.  Keep moving forward.

I originally started on the 8 milligram film about three years ago.  Went down to 6 Milligrams, then 4, then 2.  The last couple of months, I was cutting with a razor blade a very small piece of the film and would take in the a.m.  With the film, it's tough to give exact dosage but I would guess about .25 - .30 per day.
Today is day 5 with no suboxone, and day 1 with no Tramadol.  Course... the tramadol was only a 4 day ordeal and I learned more about it so stopped taking immediately.  Any idea as to how long this lethargy will drag on?  I'm self employed and I need to work.

I agree with the replies you've gotten.  You lucked out that you found out NOW about the Tramadol, versus a few months into it, where you would have had to deal with that as well.

I agree that I wouldn't recommend going back to the Subs.  Give it a try, there will be w/ds, but many people manage to get through it.  There IS no magical pill, or easy way around w/ds unfortunately, however there ARE ways to treat the symptoms without turning to another addictive substance.  Look up the Thomas recipe...great info there about getting through opiate detox.

What dose of Suboxone were you on when you stopped taking it?

61chevy here.  Thank u all for your posts and your encouragements.  Today im "jumping off".  Day 5 with no suboxone and not taking anything other than Aleve today.  I just was so ignorant about the tramadol.  So thankful I read up and did some research before I just traded one addiction for another.  I concluded I fell into that trap when I was prescribed suboxone n found I was now simply hooked on that instead of percocet.

flu like symptoms coming in...but not anything I can't deal with.  The slow tapering process really did help me.  Thanks again for your knowledge n comments.

Tramadol becomes a schedule 4 controlled substance August 18th.  It's in same class as benzos and darvocet. It is not as strong as schedule 3 vicodin and Tylenol 3 is a schedule 5 to give you an idea.  It is a synthetic drug that works similAr to an opiate due to the chemical structure and the SSRI quality it has.  Short term use in low doses should not bring about withdraw, but the suboxone takes a few weeks to leave your system, so you will probably notice some withdraw if you stop the Tramadol after a only few days of taking it.  It is keeping the sub withdraw at bay right now.  There really isn't an easy way out.  No matter what, there is some discomfort.

This man has been off sub for 4 days now...Are you telling him to go back on and taper? Did I read that correctly?   I have to disagree.  He's actually doing well right now...in my opinion...and is almost to 5 days without it...

Hi there and Welcome!   First off, all three of your threads posted. This one, another one from an hour ago here on page 1 right now and a third about 10 hours ago and it's on page 2.

To answer your question...it's doubtful you'll have any significant wd's from the Tramadol. It's only been a few days. And the dose is low.

I guess you've read that it contains a synthetic, opiate like compound along with an antidepressant.  What's good is that it's covering the Sub wd's. What's not good is that it's also addicting. It becomes a schedule IV controlled drug on Aug. 18th.  It's up to you if you want to continue using it to help the Sub wd's...just keep it brief and then taper off.

If you want to just be done with it, you may feel some wd's and that would be from the Sub. It has a long half life and takes a few weeks to be eliminated from the body.

Keep posting here and think about Aftercare!
