The drug came out and advertised as being non-narcotic...I had a long talk with my pain doc friday when i got my injections...he hates tramadol and will not prescribe it...he said the salesman came in with their sales pitch and he threw them out...it works on the mu receptor and so therfore is habitforming...he said it does not work well for pain and is just not worth the risk as it is highly addictive....i asked because a while back when i was gonna quit hydros and was asking for something else, he had a cow and gave me the hydros...after being on this forum i have learned why he hates that drug...tapering is the only safe way to quit that drug
I was abusing Tramadol along with vicodin and others. I tried to quick numerous times, but I always lost that fight. I am now free of these addictions let me tell you I feel so much better mentally and physically. I did the cold turkey off of Tramadol (I took about 800mg/ day) I did not get any seizures, but I did get the nasty withdrawls. Day 1 wasn't too bad, day 2 sucked with pain, no energy, and depression. Day 3 was filled with no energy and depression. Day 4 was much better as I only had no energy. Day 5 was like I was back to my old self. After day 5 each day is better and better. The toughest part was getting past day 3 for me. A few things that helped me was praying to god (I am not preaching I am just saying this worked for me) and looking at my kids and wife and knowing they needed the father I was before the drugs came into play. Life is so much better now and will never go back. It isn't worth being a different person and choosing these drugs first over everything else.
If anyone, whether a doctor or someone else, tells you Tramadol is not addictive they are flat out lying right to your face. These pills in my opinion are more addictive than vicodin and the others. Good luck, I mean good luck to your friend.
Try to taper as much as you can ,CT can cause seizures .Come of ultram is not a fun experience but is doable .If you need any help let me know.

I was abusing tramadol at ridiculously high doses for maybe 4-5 months before at around 800mg the seizures finally stopped me. I found after another 2 months that cold turkey was the only way, and I was blacking out constantly and couldn't walk and my brain would zap and it lasted like two weeks. Tramadol was supposed to be one of the least addictive and better for use in people taking arthritis meds, but I abused vicodin in the same way and the withdrawals were cake compared to tramadol.
I'd say it's going to be pretty unpleasent.
Tramadol needs to be tapered off of. Look for avisg and read her journals and send her a PM if you need her to do a specific taper plan. Seizures are possible if they quit cold turkey or taper too fast.
