Trigger

I woke up today, 8 days clean!!!  I believe I have made it through the worst of  the phys w/d pains, still some nausea, and sleeping a bit more.  My question is.....triggers!!! They want to get the best of me!!   This morning, my husband wanted to take our son to the movies, and somehow, somewhere - between home and church yesterday,I misplaced the one set of keys we have to his car.  Ive been beating myself up over a stupid mistake.  My initial reaction was to use.  I could numb just a bit of anger and guilt that I feel at myself, then id be fine.  Heck no... that wouldnt make the keys reappear?  It wouldnt help my guilt.. It would exacerbate it.   OMG its just a key!
I can manage to call a locksmith and pay for a new one, if it means spending a bit less on those last two gifts I have to buy tomorrow.

I am so used to reaching for my purse, whenever I run into an obstacle....how do I get past that?  Especially during these stressful times, how can I keep from relapsing when I come face to face with that 'trigger'...the devil that reels me in?

xoxoxo much love and success to you all.

Thanks for the reminder.. all things are possible through Him.  The Lord will stand between myself and anything that is trying to defeat me from my task at hand, which is sobriety.  I must remind myself of the sacrifices HE has made for me, what I am doing is incredibly small in comparison.  Thank you again Gnarly...My eyes are opened, and so is my Bible :)  Blessings to you

hey girlee ...wow it seams everone is getting slamed with triggers and cravings lately
well as for advise ill tell you what my drug conslor tells me ...be mindfull and take your thoughts captive b/4 you start obsessing on them....there are no big deals in life
only things we take out of contex ....stressing over the little things turns them into big things...and again if it ant going to kill you or someone its only going to make you stronger going thew it...there are no big deals...find something you enjoy doing and do it
go for a walk outside even if its just around the block it will get you mind off it..there is always going to be something in life that frustrates you ...as addicts we need to learn coping skills to deal with this stuff instead of running to the pills  from reading your post I see you go to church do what I do and bring it to god....let him cary the burden for you prayer is a powerful weapon against triggers and cravings when it
gets bad I tell myself all things are possible thew Christ jesus and that seams to help out alot god will always give you an out...sometimes I call one of my brothers in Christ and tell them im struggling with using and thats all it takes...exposing ones
sin to light takes the power it has over you away...find someone in your church that you can trust and call them when it starts to get to you..this is positively one of the best ways I have defused my desire to use I hope some of this helps you out
hang tuff girlee you can do this..good luck and god bless.... Gnarly

Congrats on those 8 days clean. Triggers can be everywhere. When i first quit, everything and anything was a trigger. If we can eliminate some of them, it makes this fight a bit easier, but it's impossible to eliminate all of them.

To answer your question, you do whatever it takes to fight through and not use and since you posted, that is a big step and shows that you don't want to go back to those pills. Getting support is so important and talking bout it, just like you have done:) Cravings pass, triggers pass, so hang tough. Your so early off them right now and have a lot to look forward to, we don't heal overnight, but we do heal and it gets easier:) Your doing great:)

As each day passes so will the triggers. We are just so use to popping a few pills when anything negative happens. We just get so set in our ways. I'm sure you have noticed in life before pills there were certain rituals that you did and eventually they became second nature. You would do these things without even thinking about it. While taking pills we did the same thing. If anything came up we would automatically take a few pills without even thinking. Maybe retrain your brain taking a different approach when you would normally take a pill. It could be anything such as a walk around the block or even eating a piece of chocolate. Eventually those triggers will be far and few between. You just need to find new rituals.
Congrats on 8 days!! Just never let your guard down. Once clean we tend to become very vulnerable thinking we can control our use. That one pill usually leads to one too many. That one day of using usually ends up being a week, then 2, and before we know it we can end up right back to where we started. Just stay strong and know that it will get better!!
Best of luck!!!
