Trying 2nd AA meeting tonight

Some of you remember my first aa meeting...ugh! Hoping tonight is better and there are some females there. Even though I am feeling pretty good mentally, i know i have to put something into place in terms of aftercare. One relapse is enough for me.  I never want to go through the torture and guilt of that again. It turned me upside down and inside out. I felt like the biggest loser.

Not today though! Agian I am feeling strong and ready to work on getting better. havent thought about pills at all! I am a walking MIRACLE!!

Thanks to you guys that have helped me through this process. xxoo kathy

I just wanted to say how great it is to see these NA and AA meeting posts showing up so frequently. Many of us oldtimers have made an effort lately to stress aftercare more..and it's so cool to see people hitting meetings so early in their attempts at recovery. It took me over 5 years to start...it looks like some of you are much smarter than me. Congrats guys and gals...keep coming back.

Very happy you're still trying them!!!!

I now have a homegroup!!!!  I did find a group that I connect well with.  It's nice to speak openly about things that we've kept secret for so long.

I hope you try it Brian!!!!  Funny thing is, I can't really picture either of you being too shy!!!  ha ha

You guys will be chairing meetings by your 3rd!!!!!

Hang in there,

bob

Gnarly, I want to find a meeting like that! Outdoor, with a fire, sittin around chatting with like minded peeps...wow! You're blessed for sure.

Brian, That is part of my issue too. I am super shy (especially now off pills). Once i get to know people I dont shut up though...lol Walking into the meeting last night wasn't bad at all. the first was a little nerve racking, but it des get easier. These poeple were really nice too! So i'll keep looking and praying that God will lead me to the right one.

Mayhem, How was your meeting? did you get much out of it? I dont know the rules/lingo so why they arent specific, i have no idea. I guess all of us newbies are in the same boat and it just takes time.

I went to one yesterday and people there were so nice only thing that bothered me was that nobody says what drug they were on. I wish they did because I'd like to talk to a fellow oxycontin addict and hear thier experiences. I wonder why they are not drug specific when talking? Anyways   Im rambling. I think na would be better because the people there you could probably relate to more then an alcoholic. But wherever your comfortable is the place for you. Congrats on getting to that second meeting and as they say keep coming back :)

I remember reading your post about your first meeting. What, you didn't have fun?!!
From what I have heard you have to keep searching until you find one you feel comfortable with. I have also heard there are meetings that are "female" only. So if this one doesn't work out, keep searching. I too need to start going to meetings. I'm just so darn shy I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. I know for proper recovery I need to though. Once I get to know people I'm not shy and probably talk too much. I know I'd meet some great people there so being shy shouldn't be used as a excuse.
Good luck with your meeting. Let us know how it goes!

Brian

HI Kathy glad to here your meeting went better this week for you...I know what your saying about A/A being mostly for alcoholics the meeting I use to go to was a combo of
people that had both problems but mostly drinking...I use to take my daughter to a N/A meeting up on north mountain and now when I crave I found it to be a better fit for me
N/A is more geared towards the drug end of it being in Arizona its an outdoor meeting with a big bonfire so its kinda cozy ..I like it alot...once you find the right meeting you will know it and you will find it will work out good for you...good luck and God bless

Just checking in here...went to 2nd aa meeting last night and while everyone was super nice and I felt very comfy there, I'm thinking I need to try one more meeting, but NA. Everyone was talking about drinking, etc. I know it basically the same as pillin, but i sort felt like i wasn't being truthful by omission. Hard to explain, but becasue drinking isnt my thing, I'm not sure if i can connect there. So hopefully 3 times a charm :) If NA turns out not to be for me, then I will go back to the meeting next friday night.

Thanks for caring!! Kathy xxoo

Terry, I laughed out loud when i read your post. all i could picture was Carmela Suprano walking into an aa meeting...lmao!!
