Ttramadol Withdrawal and Depression

Hi, I am trying to find an answer and please don't tell me to go to Emily's Journal--I tried posting there 3xs--can she block me? It looks that way.

Anyway, I am off the tramadols 11 days and very depressed, can someone PLEASE tell me if this is normal and how long this lasts?

Thanks.

Reading verses talking is not really a great way to communicate...i do not like texting conversations either as things get taken out of context..i didnt see any negative comments that u made??  course some people think differently than others/we r alll different
trams is a friend of mine's doc..when she runs out the depression and anxiety r awful..she is on a high dose tho/abuses them up to 18 a day depending on the weather and supply..and many who suffer bad wd from tram were taking a high dose...200 mgs per day is norm..altho 400 mgs is rx'd and considered safe..as a rule/and only a rule as we r all different/people who r on tram for a few months at 100-200 mgs a day do not have a bad wd/usually none...and not all are prone to becoming addicted to drugs/we r/so it seems everyone is but that is not the case as most do not or they would be banned by now from our country if they were that dangerous...some can become addicted in only a few months..not most...and with trams many who r r taking very high doses and not 100-200 mgs/altho some r....there r also people (not to say who) in the past who have come here claiming a prescribed dose and then later accidently posting a very high dose of trams///and she was called on it..to read the beautiful posts this person should have been a writer/or maybe is in real life...but the forum members on the forum that day called her on it..in a heartbeat..i remember this for some reason

do not let someone who is not open to differences in people let u feel down..as we are all DIFFERENT!  but almost everyone suffers a severe depression coming off of trams..and anxiety as well...rls and insomnia are common...things to help relieve these symptoms can help.....natural sleep and anxiety aids, natural AD's can help..or talk to ur dr and get some of these things RX'd for u...all of these are helped with exercise tho..and a positive attitude....knowing this will pass and u will be fine...support is also so important...keep posting

Sometimes intentions can be misread in an online forum - I've had this issue myself in the past. Also, everyone has their own sensitivities to whatever their sensitive to and that also can cause intentions or people to be read or interpreted incorrectly. Political correctness is key! lol

Although you are not a traditional addict, your body was addicted to the trams, and any physical dependency on an outside substance causes the body to stop producing it's natural chemicals. Dopamine, seratonin, many many other chemistries of the brain stop producing naturally as we are putting a synthetic into the mix. Someone mentioned PAWS earlier, and that not only applies to psychological issues but physiological issues as well. It can take up to 2 years for the brain to produce these very necessary chemicals on its own. Feeling depressed or anxious is completely normal - opiates cause intense havoc on the body and recovery from this can be long. As suggested above, SSRIs are very helpful as are the natural things like sam-e, 5htp etc. Do not combine the two, either go natural or go SSRI, not both. Implementing an exercise routine would also be beneficial, not only for obvious health reasons but exercising stimulates the "feel good" chemical production in the brain which in turn would help with any anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, etc you may be feeling.

Continue posting here - misunderstandings happen but the bottom line is most of us are here to give or receive help. That said, keep in mind that not all people everywhere are always well-intentioned and nice... fact of life? human condition? whichever - but very true. :) Take care of yourself!!

Thank you for your kindness. I actually felt better later on yesterday, but I will look into the amino acids and anything natural. Your response was one of the best I got and I really appreciate it. Bless you. If I could be of any help just let me know.

The depresion can stick around for awhile, it is kind of like the sleepless nights. you might try the amino acid protocol,. it is at the bottom right side of the page. Also i think there is something in the thomas recipe that helps deal with depression. or as suggested you can go to you doctor and he can give you a script for something to help.

take care, keep fighting the fight. know I am here to support and help you anyway I can.

I sincerely did not see where I was hostile or harsh--honestly. I asked if it is normal to be depressed and how long it lasts?. Sara, you asked what I was looking for, that was it, that question, That is all I wanted to know. I never asked anything but that. I think you are reading me wrong. I said I felt depressed and I got some good answers.  I am not being hostile, I was looking for support.
Tyson Red and some others gave legitimate answers to the question I asked.
But wow, to have so many people say some of the things that were said was way harsh. to me. I was not expecting it. I would have to same a few of you were pretty harsh and I would never ask a thing if it's a custom to hurt someone who comes here and asks a question. I said thanks for the suggestions and caring enough to write  and bless you, how that relates to harsh, I don't get. All b/c I didn't want to go to a meeting? That was the only thing I said and that's making me a hostile and harsh person? I really don't understand, but maybe the writing isn't being read the way I am feeling. I am still withdrawing. I was not expecting this response.
Good luck to u all.

I think Sara is right.Your best bet would probably be to talk to your doctor about this. Not to be harsh but it doesn't seem like you're really open to the advice that your getting here.Everyone who takes the time to respond to you is only doing so to help you,but they can't help you if you are not willing to help yourself.Best of luck....Kim

The depression can last for months if you dont take some sort of step towards getting better. Alot of the times it just takes time for our brains to heal and once again producing its own natural amounts of chemicals. Tramadol addiction/dependence is a tricky one, I for one never had too much of a problem when coming off it, while others have had a horrible time. Alot of people on here start taking pain pills for legitimate pain and end up becoming addicted, whether or not a person has pain doesnt determine whether they are addicted or dependent. I know for alot of people its hard to admit when you've become addicted, but its also the first step in recognizing the problem and becoming determined to quit. Try to keep an open mind and listen to others advice, no one here has the room to be judgemental, but if you ask a question we can only answer with honesty from our own experience. If you dont want to attend any meetings, you could try and anti-depressant, excercise can really help speed up the process and make us feel better about ourselves. I wish you the best of luck, we're only trying to help, have a good night, take care.

I am not new to this. I was a drug counselor. I kicked many a habit and was never suicidal. I trust God before man any day.

I said this on someone's journal on here. We are all so different and no one is an expert.

My husband is a fortunate one that had not bad affects getting off trams and this person pretty much was saying that's impossible. She has me blocked b/c I didn't agree with her.

I am feeling very depressed and she who writes like an expert would know how much that hurt.

But I took the trams for real pain and do not wish to go to a meeting but thanks for the suggestion and caring enough to write.

Bless u all.

i am a fan of long term tx because so many addicts suffer from clinical depression and maybe high risk for suicide
i suggest you find an na meeting tonight and bring this up as a topic, depression is part of paws which will last 2 yrs, without some form of tx its not likley to go away
i was so depressed my first 6 months clean, i was definantly suicidle, i started feeling better when i got to the 10th step, i would suggest other methods for depression but i only know whats worked for me, thats na, and at times ea

Hey! I thought I was gonna die from the depression. I took prozac for maybe 10 months after I quit the tramadol. It probably helped, maybe just not the right one for me. I just wsn't working with it. I had a hard time learning to live without pills. I quit the prozac, satrted all the aminos and what a difference it has made. I am 15 months free from tramadol. the aminos do help. I wish you well.

hi. ya, the depression is typical, and it's duration varies. things like exercise, eating as well as possible, and getting enough sleep are paramount. finding an aa or na meeting wouldn't hurt either. repercussions after the initial detox are mostly psych related as there is still likely a neurotransmitter imbalance that takes a while to renormalize. short term antidepressant therapy may be warranted. if the depression is more than you can handle, you should seek the advice of a physician to discuss this alternative. take care,  gm
