Tylenol???

I have a question. Since I came off pain pills in early October, I've been taking Tylenol like crazy. I'll take 4 extra strength tylenol about 4 times a day or so. Is this ok??? I've been doing it every day since October. I ache so bad all over and I refuse to go back to pain pills! I cant take Advil because of gastric bypass and it causes ulcers. i've tried anti-inflamatories....but the tylenol is what I am taking. am i ok? Is it ok to take that much? Let me know your thoughts.

Good for you!  The key with arthritic pain is to keep moving.  Swimming and yoga work the best for me.  My yoga teacher has helped people almost completely crippled by different forms of arthritis achieve an almost pain free state.  I have permanent damage in my hands and wrists from the RA and the yoga helps me keep my mobility, range of motion, and sanity(:  Keep staying strong and stay away from too much tylenol!

I went to the gym today.... walked on the treadmill for about 35 min then did a couple of the machines. I felt so good about being there. My hip pain is flared up right now, but I'm hoping tomorrow will be better. Staying Strong!

I echo the brilliant advice of the posters above me and will also add-get yourself to a infrared sauna.  I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Crohns Disease and I live on the west coast of Canada where it is currently 6 degrees and raining.  I own a sauna and have been using it daily since after about day 6 of my detox off opiates and I'm at day 11 now.  It is saving me.  I take two Tylenol Arthritis in the morning and by 3 pm I can't walk.  I get in the sauna for as long as I can. Not only does it sweat the toxins, it eases the pain and gives me a boost like the sun.  Please take Milk thistle for your liver and don't take so much tylenol.  I can't take NSAIDS either because of my Crohns so I know we are limited with what we can take for pain.  I don't know where you live but a lot of massage therapists, chinese medicine docs, and even some gyms have infrared saunas.  Also-I started back doing yoga 4 times a week about two months before I detoxed and my RA symptoms all but vanished until now (been too sick and weak to go to class) If you can manage a gentle Hatha class it really helps both with the physical pain and your mind's perception of that pain.....Sending support...Lu

Swimming might help.  Exercise does give you more energy ... you just have to take that first step.  And it will help the pain as well.  Start very small and build up.  Also, not sure where your pain is, but I have a lot of arthritis pain.  I used to take a ton of ibuprofen and then ruined my stomach so I use other methods to sort of take the edge off.  I find heat the best and the ThermaCare patches make a big difference for me.  Also, ask your doctor about Lidoderm patches.  They do help.  I've used them on my back, hip, and I cut them to use on my hands.

Nothing will probably ease all the pain, but it's just learning to manage it better.  Have you checked out the Pain Management forum?  There may be people there that can give you some ideas as well.

I know it's hard to not take the Tylenol, but you're taking far too much.  Personally, I rarely take it just because I'm nervous about the liver problems (even though I don't drink and read labels on OTC meds, etc.)

Hi sweetie---Mama #474 says no, no, NO to that much Tylenol. The uppermost level is 8 daily, and not every day, either. More than that and you're going to kill your liver. Are you noticing more bruising than usual or longer healing times for minor cuts and scratches? Too much Tylenol can cause clotting problems due to a compromised liver. I think you're now in the middle stage of getting clean, and it also happens to be smack in the middle of holiday time. Together they can exhaust you. You must be selfish and put yourself ahead of everything else--this is your life we are talking about---and take relief wherever you can find it. More naps or just stretching out on the bed to read quietly for an hour, doing your nails or putting lotion on your body-- you know what works for you. Treat yourself the same way you'd treat the person that you love the most if they were stressed and not feeling good. The middle stage of recovery is mostly mental, so you must be up to the challenge. Also, are you a person who might have SAD (seasonal affective disorder)? These people react to the lack of sunlight during the winter months. Getting more sunshine--even if you have to go to a tanning bed occasionally--really helps with that.
You have been doing so well, and I am very proud that you're still with us and still fighting. Hang on tight!

if you start with little walks that will release the endrophins and it will give you more energy. do you have access to a swimming pool? the water will help with the pain and it is also exercising. you have to change your mindset of taking pills. even if it is tylenol.that is also very harmful to your health. please  try other things.

they recommend not taking more than 3000mgs a day. more than 4000mgs a day can cause severe liver damage. if you are taking 16 pills that is 8000mgs a day. hun that is way too much. have you tried exercising, other pain management? water therapy, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture??
