Ultram Addiction

I am hoping to reach others who are suffering from, or have a family member/friend suffering from Ultram addiction:
I lost my brother on July 9, 2008....he committed suicide. Why? ULTRAM!!!! Yes, my brother suffered with his addiction to Ultram for 12+ years. He tried to get help several times, but was unsuccessful. This horrible drug took ahold of his life and wouldn't let go! He tried to quit so many times....went through withdraw so many times, but just wasn't able to get away from the power of it. He was 33 years old, a very handsome, athletic, well-educated, and wonderful man. I am writing this to warn all you users of Ultram....THIS IS A HORRIBLE AND ADDICTIVE DRUG. DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO GET OFF THIS MEDICATION AND GET THE HELP YOU NEED BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! If you take a drug information book and look up the symptoms, contraindications, and the warnings...it says right there at least 3 times that this drug can be very addictive and can cause suicidal tendencies! My brother had everything to live for...he had a wonderful, close family who loved him very much. PLEASE DON'T LET THIS DRUG RULE YOUR LIFE!!!! THIS DRUG SHOULD BE A NARCOTIC......AND YOU CAN BET YOUR BUTT I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO SEE THAT THIS HAPPENS!!! I am a Nurse, and I see how quick Doctors are to prescribe this medication to patients....THIS HAS TO STOP!!!!! PLEASE GET HELP, AND DON'T ADD TO THE HORRIFIC STATISTICS OF THIS DRUG. If I can reach at least ONE person, then my brother's death wasn't for nothing!

Unfortunately, you are very correct. Tramadol (Ultram) is a very bad drug and it IS prescribed all too easily.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had no idea tramadol/ultram had been around that long.
I completely agree that it should be considered a narcotic. If it had, I would never have gotten addicted. It was just too easy to get.

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. You are absolutely right!! Ultram (tramadol) is a destructive menace. The worst part is that when a doctor first gave it to me he assured me that it wasn't habit formimg. I only hope that they are better educated now.

my doctor put me on ultram because I was addicted to vicodin and he did not want to give me anymore...so he gave me Ultram (tramadol)...2-4 times  day 2 50mg tabs.  It's only what I've read here where I learened it is addictive.  I'm taking no mor than 6/day but it looks like I better get off 'em..and get back on Physical therapy...Oh..wait a minute..my insurance company says I've used up my quota..well, then how about a pain management doctor..don't trust them either...

I'm growing so fed up with doctors
