Valium Withdrawal

I am new to this website and I am starting day 1 of valium withdrawal. I was put on valium to withdraw from zopliclone sleep aid used for neck pain. Valium worked so well that my Dr. thought it would be fine for me to stay at such a small dosage 1.7 mg a night. I know that sounds so low but I am very drug sensitive and get 4 x the dosage out of most meds. I have been on the Valium for 5 months now and this past month I was very aware of increasing anxiety, unable to sleep, depression. When I begin to read about Valium I was quite distressed to see that my Dr. had recommended continuing it. I went to another Dr. and he read me to riot act and told me I had to get off it and that at such a small dosage I should just stop. I just cut back to .9 last night and terrible muscle cramps and little sleep. A few questions: Are symptoms worse on day 5 or is it safe for me to try tapering more (I've seen the Ashton website)? I went through a major depression 20 years ago and I am terrified that this will affect me. I told my Dr. this but he rather minimized the fear, so hope he is right. Any thoughts or suggestions or encouragment would be most appreciated.

How are you taking 1.7mg? I know it comes as low as a 2mg tablet in the US. Just making sure your dosages are correct. If you're correct in your 1.7mg dosage, then I'd just continue cutting a bit every week or so. Your dosage is so small, I'd be surprised if your withdrawals were intensive or prolonged.

Sorry you are having a rough time, I am glad that you have decided to stop the valium.  I guess with it being a Saturday night, the site is a little slow so your best bet would be to lurk around the posts and see what people are saying about a Xanax withdrawal, Valium and Xanax are the from the same "Class" so all the withdrawals should be the same. Each person detoxs differently but for the most part the Withdrawal symptoms stay the same with the difference only being in the intensity of them and how long they will last.  The intensity and length of any withdrawals usually fall into place with how much and for how long you were using and that is pretty much with any type of drug. The higher the tolerance, the harder the hit, ya know?? So anyway, just have a look around this WONDERFUL site and good luck to you hon.. Kimmy

You are doing the right thing, getting off. I am sorry I don't know much about Valium other then it is a long acting Benzo but there are many here do. Hang tight they will get back to you.
