Vicodin VS. Tramodal

MJV
Does anyone know the difference between these two drugs?  I have read some information about them, but I was hoping to get some info. from someone who has actually used them.

Please don't take Tramadol!!!  I've been taking it for 6 months and can't get off.  Before i started taking it, vicodin worked so great for my pain...now if I take a vicodin it does NOTHING for me because I take such a high dose of trams!  with trams like most pain killers, you usually have to continue taking more and more to get it to keep working for you.  Some people say it does nothing for their pain but it does help mine.  I don't feel "high" on them, it just gives me this abundant amount of energy and it also elevates your moods.  I get so happy and nice while on them.  The downside is that they are highly addictive and they can be more dangerous then vics because you can have seizures if you go c/t.  You may not even  be able to take them because they cause seizures in some people as a side effect.

Thanks Cath, ......

These are two entirely different drugs.  Tramadol (brand name Ultram) is a centrally acting analgesic, while Vicodin (which is a brand name for hydrocodone, like other brands such as:  Norco and Lortab) is a schedule III opiod analgesic/antitussive agent.  They are both used to treat pain, and although tramadol is not an opioid, it DOES bind to opioid receptor sites in the brain and so it can lead to tolerance, dependence, and addiction, just like the hydrocodone.  Since they both work in the same area, if you're taking them both, you're likely to have more pronounced effects as it's like doubling up.

Tramadol is a synthetic opiate. It can be very hard to get off of and seizures can result if you quit cold/turkey. avisg is our resident expert on Trams. Vicodin is also an opiate. It is Hydrocodone and addictive as all opiates are. On the addiction scale Vics are not as strong as other opiates.

Why do you ask?

Vicodin is a higher pain killer than tramadol.  Tramadol to me is no different to tylenol, then i have some friends that are addicted to it.  I am coming off of vicodin and i dont sugest anyone take it for any periods of time.  I dont know your story but if possible i would stray from vicodin.  LIke i said i have used them both and vicodin gave the the pain relief and the "high" i was looking for tramadol didnt even touch the pain.  That could also be cause i was on vicodin so long tramadol isnt as strong.  This is simply MY experiance i wish you the best of luck.
