Vicodin Withdraw

Partly a statement of my situation and questions:

I have been taking 5-6 Vicodins per day for the better part of 2+ years. I often (usually) run out before my prescription is refillable. During this time I suffer from flu like symptoms, very severe night sweats and worse, unbareable leg cramps. I also suffer from severe depression when I do not take my medication. I started taking these pills for my menstrual cycle, but it blew up in my face. I kept needing more and more. I am afraid to approach my doctor because I am fearful that she will abruptly take me off. She once told me that she thought I was exhibiting "addictive" behavior. Should I see a specialist who can offer another medication to ease me off of the Vicodin? I have a benzo for anxiety and I have read it should help me sleep. It does for a few hours, but them I am back to very sweaty nights (changing clothes, washing sheets every day, airing out my pillows and mattress). If anyone knows of a medication that is safe to help come off of the V, it would be very helpful. I have tried potassium, eating bananas, taking tons of Tylenol and Ibuprophen, but it just hurts my stomach and I get horrible diarreah. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi Mac and welcome also! You don't really need a medication to safely withdrawal from Vicoden! Tons of people do it all the time without any other medication! Free, gave you some great advice! Check out the Thomas Recipe at the bottom of the page! There are vitamins and supplements that will help with the withdrawal symptoms! It typically lasts about a week! You've already gone through some of this each time you run out of your prescription early! The only other thing I would add is to take Immodium for the bathroom issues! It helps with other symptoms also! take care and best wishes! Please post anytime you have a question or need some support! When you are ready to quit we can help you through every step!!

Hi  welcome

I took that exact amount for slightly less time than you. It was a result of surgery. Before that I didn't even know what they were. I am clean now.

all I did..........

Read old posts everyday
Tried to be supportive to everyone on here..
Grew a pair.....set a date.... took time off work,,,,,
Gathered supplies from Thomas recipie...
Tapered fast  (cant give specifics)  but it was like 4 3 2 1 done
Felt like flu 5 days  then over...

Some good people on here supported me and walked me through it.

When you're ready we'll be here for you too
