Vicodin Withdrawal

I have been reading these posts and find it interesting that people really do admit when there is an issue and i found myself wanting to admit to it too but get nervous about the side effects of the withdrawal but have had enough of taking these things. Its way too much money and feel as low as they come by buying soo many pills in a week. After reading your posts, its nice to see everybody talking about their problems but does anybody have advice as to what i can do to relieve these annoying side effects with home remedies.

any suggestions?

all help is appreciated

thanks

Here I sit as someone who knows better. Someone who fought and won a 2 year heroin addiction. January of 2011 was 2 years clean. One day at work I was offered a vicodin and without hesitation I said "yes". It's been a downhill slide since then which ended with my employer catching me red handed with vicodin. It's been 2 days of no vicodin and surprisingly I'm not feeling that bad. I went through the heroin withdraws cold turkey, so that experience is always in the back of my mind. The hardest thing for me to deal with is the restlessness and lack of sleep. I need some help.

I just woke up into day 5 of my vicodin withdrawal and I gotta say I feel better today than I have in some time.  I hope I am not being too optimistic but we will see how the day goes.  All of the information from this fabulous group of people will aid in your quest...however, you must WANT to do this.  Like gnarly it is 2/3 mental - such a true statement...you can do this.  I am not gonna lie to you and say it is easy because it is not, but compared to what you have been doing it is well well worth it.  Good Luck

HI and welcome to the forum.....there are a few things you can do to help out wile going threw this....first is attitude....nothing will help you more then a positive attitude even when it su cks...this is truly a battle one or lost in ones own mind...this is 1/3 physical and 2/3 mental
be ready to fight on both fronts ....try not to let fear of the withdrawals into the equation it only makes it worst and its always worst in our minds then it turns out to be...as for releving the symptoms a hot bath goes a long way you may need several a day a shower will do but a bath is more relaxing ...there are some supplements on the lower right of the screen you will find the thomas recipe pick up the stuff listed it will ez your withdrawals sleep is usually a problem so rent a bunch of movies so you got something to do wile you up all night...
keep reading the posts so you know what to expect and keep posting for support
the first step is admitting your an addict from there you just have to decide when you want to start this take about a week to run its coarse the mental part is a whole nother story you deal with that with aftercare will point you in the right direction lets get you detoxed first let us know when your ready to get started good luck and God bless....Gnarly

I think the one thing that helped me the most was exercising. I know you don't feel like doing much of anything, but it truely helps!! On day 2 I started taking short walks and on day 3 and after I would ride my bike at least an hour at a time a couple times a day! It really helped me with my overall energy.
As for sleeping, I tried melatonin and it worked for me after the first couple of days. I tried to stay away from non natural sleeping products because I didn't want to have rebound insomnia.

Just stay strong!

admitting it is the hardest part sometimes. it just helps to say it (or write it). as far as being nervous about the withdrawals, i think you'd be surprised that they aren't actually as bad as you think they'll be. don't get me wrong they suck, but it's totally doable. just keep a strong mind.

this is what i've been doing to get through the withdrawals:

hot, hot baths 3-4 times a day
walking for 30 minutes twice a day...trust me on this one
a high quality wide spectrum multivitamin from the health food store
drinking so much water you feel like you'll burst.....got to flush out the toxins
advil for aches and pains

i'm on day four and feeling better already, albeit, a little. just think of all the money you're going to save. enough to buy yourself a nice reward when you get this behind you. hang in there.

Some people use something call the Thomas Method during detox and I've heard a lot of stories where it as helped.  I'm sure it's posted somewhere on here.  I couldn't do it because a couple of the vitamins interferred with medicines that I have to take daily.
What I can tell you is that you will definitely need immodium ad because once wd kicks in you will have the runs really bad.  Also drink lots of fluids and take extra potassium (bananas are good)  The potassium helps with the restless legs.   Everyone has different side effects and from what I've read everyone seems to focus more on one than any of the others.  I'm not sure how much you are taking but if you could do a slow taper than it might be a little easier.
Good luck!  This is a great forum to get lots of advice from!
