Vicodin Withdrawals

Hey everyone..

I recently decided to stop using vicodin.  I tried once before, but the withdrawals were so painful; I was unsuccessful.  I felt extremely sick.. body aches.. insomnia.. depression.. and anxiety so bad I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my body.  Willing to do whatever it would take to even feel slightly normal, I gave in and popped a few pills, and wa-la.. I felt like a champ.  Since then, I've continuously procrastinated my detox/recovery.  I'm so scared to go through withdrawals.. especially now that I got a little taste of how awful I'm going to feel.  However, I know that vicodin is ruining my life.  It's like my coffee.  When I wake up in the morning, it's the first thing I do.  The 120 pills a month that my doctor prescribes me is not enough.. Now, I'm buying them off a friend of a friend regularly at $4 a pop.. spending all my money.  It depresses me that I'm so dependent on something just to feel normal.  I cry just thinking about my life prior to vicodin, and wonder if I can ever be happy without it again.

I'm starting my detox today.  Can anyone tell me how long the REALLY bad part last?  Will I start to feel better, happy or normal again.. without vicodin?  Also, I read in other post about the THOMAS RECIPE; has anyone tried it?  Does it help?

I really need your help.. any advice.. personal experiences.. knowledge.. or suggestions will be so appreciated.  I plan on posting regularly in hopes that it will help me get through this sick addiction.

I'm praying that I get throught this..

Hey Sammy,

Very happy for your decision.  The worst physical stuff should be over in 5 days.  Come here and learn everything that will happen to you and how long it usually lasts.  Compare your habit with similar cases and see what happened to them.

Everyone is different but the symptoms you can expect are chills, sleeplessness, runs, night sweats, hot flashes, runny nose and sneezing but not necessarily in that order!!!

Don't get freaked out about this.  Take some deep breaths and understand that EVERYthing you are feeling is normal.  It does get a little worse before it gets better but when you start to see the symptoms go in the other direction, you will know the worst of the physical stuff is OVER.

Hang in there, this is very doable if you prepare a little.  Yes the Thomas recipe works great for some.  It sure can't hurt and the fact you are taking pills (the good kind) may alleviate some anxiety!!!!

Pulling for you, keep us posted,

bob

from what i have gathered on this site in the last year and a half or so, the worst should be over in 10 days tops. thats the withdraw part, but the mental part is a much tougher and strung out battle. Some here will help you with a taper plan that can make the w/d's easier, but they are still gonna be present somewhat. after you get thru those, you will have to deal with the mental issues that will arise. thats the real killer for me, im a coke addict. but the first step, which you have already taken, is realizing you are not in control of your life ne more. so now its time to taper , or take a few weeks off work and deal with the w/d's and go cold turkey. thats all up to you. as i understand it, its kinda like having a bad case of the flu. you can go to the health pages and check out the thomas recipe, i believe it is still in there. that will help with the rls and sleep issues sumwut. no matter what you decide , taking back control of our lives has to be the biggest thing we address. many prayers for you samigirl...
