Vicodin and Pregnancy...

I am 29 weeks pregnant and have been abusing Vicodin off and on for 4 years.  I started out taking them for pain at maybe 2-4 a day.  Now I'm at 6-8 a day.  (HONESLTY)  It has come to my attention recently that my baby will be born addicted to this **** if I don't stop now.  I know how AWFUL withdrawl is and I'm feeling terribly guilty for putting my little unborn son in harms way.  I have been selfish and have convinced myself that taking it throughout my pregnancy would be ok.  Now I'm learning I've made a terrible mistake.  I've begun "tapering" off but it is difficult.  I'm hoping I can be totally off in the next 2-3 weeks so by the time I have my little boy there will be no withdrawl symptoms.  At this point I need ALL the support I can get.  The baby is healthy and active and I'm thankful for that.

I've had to be really honest with myself over the past week.  I don't JUST take them for pain anymore, I take them for pleasure too.  They make me feel good when nothing else did.  I am an addict and I wish I could go back in time and never take them.  I am physically addicted and mentally addicted and I know this will NOT be easy.  I am scared and hope this "tapering" off thing will help me and my unborn son.  If anyone has ANY advice or supportive words of encouragment I would be very thankful for it!

Hi, you can send me a message if you want to talk more about this, but just wanted to tell you that I took percocet my whole pregnancy for migraines (daily, higher mgs than you), and like you, sometimes for pleasure.  I just had my son 2 weeks ago.  the week before I had him I weaned down to 20 mg. a day.  He was born fine, he's healthy and wonderful.  Good idea to wean now, as you said; bad idea to beat yourself up for what you can't change.  Your baby will be great, and even better if you can wean now, but if you need pain meds for pain, I think it's better to treat the pain.  PM me.

Please go to my journal and read my post about pregnancy and pain medication.
Also, if you haven't already, you need to get honest with your dr and figure out a way to get and stay sober after the baby is born.
Things could be very difficult for your if you'r enot honest with your dr.
God bless and good luck.
PLEASE read my journal post.
