Vicodin withdrawals

My mother was taking vicodin for the past three years or so.  We found out she was really addicted to them so the doctor took off of them.  In Thirteen days she took over ninety pills.  She has the normal symptoms but she also helusenates.  Is this normal?

I am 22 and 4 days into my detox I would take at least 10 10 mg Vic's every day for about 2 1/2 years I am like seeing stuff move and I just see random stuff and things I don't know if it's cause I have only slept 45 minutes in 4 days and can't hold anything down if you hear anything about it please let me know I took a blood test and it will come back Monday to make sure my liver and everything is OK so if it comes back OK then at least we know that

What a wonderful family your mom has raised. She needs all the support she can get right now. I am to with everyone in saying i would definetly get a doctor involved. Especially with her age. Best of luck to you and your family. I will say a prayer for you all.

ochooked is right, that much APAP can trash your liver, stomach lining, it wreaks havoc on your whole system. hopefully the doctors will be able to help her with this, it's great that she has her family with her on this, keep us posted!!

Just want everyone to know what happened to my mother.  We admited to her a good samaritan hospital for 6 days.  Her problem was a chemical inbalance.  We also found out, she was not sleeping at night. This was partly caused by her taking Vicodin all this time.  The doctor also lowered the amount of medication she was taking.  It took her a week from getting out of the hospital to get use the decrease.   We had to admit her back into the local hospital for something completly different but she is doing alot better.  And guess what, no more hallucinations!!!
Thanks to everyone her posted there help!!  Have a great day!!

could it be the ativan causing her to hallucinate? or perhaps the ativan is precipitating a previously hidden medical condition? I would not think that WD's would cause hallucinations especially after 2 weeks...good luck and keep us posted please!

Thanks everyone for listening.  I was just in contact with someone who deals with people who have been taken off prescription medication.  He told me it looks like a chemical imbalance that is causing her to hallucinate.  We are looking to get checked out tommorrow....

2-1/2 weeks has her past most strict withdrawal problems. Things like anxiety may still be present, but the ativan should be addressing that.  Really think that you need to be talking to a Doctor about this one and I believe thats only the second or third time that I have felt that way here .......but best of luck to you and the family - - I know how it is to care for elderly parents ......

My mother is 73 and is suffering from severe depression and arthritis in her lower back.  The vicodin was prescribed to her for her pain.  When her physician took her off of it he told my sister to give her ativan 1mg three times a day for her depression.  this seems to help at times but when she is alone or with my father she see's things that really scare the entire family.  She has been off of her vicodin for 2 1/2 weeks...

Could be she is really screwing up her liver -- depending on the strength of the Vics----  that may be a huge amount of Acetaminophen to dump into the liver every day. I would be VERY concerned.  She needs medical help.  All the best.

Hallucinating  is not very common when detoxing from hydro - but it has been known to happen. Are you doing this with a physician? If not it may be prudent to get one involved. She has a really severe problem - perhaps because of age? At any rate you may want further meds for her or at least professional advice...........Far from normal - - -
