Intervention on AE

Do you watch the program?

What do you think about it?

Why?

I have read a few posts on here where people did not like the program, but they never really said why.  Personally, I watch the program and it helps keep me sober.  It shows me what I was like but mainly because it shows me my family's side of the situation and what they went through.  After some of the episodes, I just get so emotional because I realize what a horrible person I was and that I NEVER want to be that person again.

What about you?

Yep yep I agree. Competely emotional for me to watch too but every time I am struggling watching that show brings me back to I dont want to be that person again!

and to Joanns comment
I agree with you too! I know if I had it all I would be up the same creek as them! And they do leave "some" stuff out like the important parts of wd like the barfing, diahrea and all that good stuff! Good thing too or no one would watch it but if they reallly want to be accurate let show the real thing!

i, too, LOVE the program and am always fascinated by all the stories, no matter if the addiction deals with alcoholism, cocaine, heroin, or Rx drugs.....it's always emotional for me, too, no matter what....i have so much empathy for everyone, for both the addict AND the families involved....it really hits home, doesn't it?  i think it's a GREAT show and i, for one, hope it stays on for a long time....i always DVR the episodes :-)  a little fantasy-based sometimes, i agree, because of the fact that these addicts get "the best" when it comes to detox centers or beautiful and expensive rehab centers, and that's not always very realistic for most addicts in the real world, but still, i believe the show has a LOT of merit and i am so intrigued by all of the stories....

I watch it depending on what the addiction is....I know it sounds crazy but it just depends. The one I watched was on VH1 the Dr. Drew Rehab one.... it was interesting to see the people who "have it all" how addicted they are... the show did leave some stuff out....but showed some good recovery stuff.

I watch it every week.I started watching it when I was still using. There was an episode with a lady who was addicted to vicodin, she also had a gambling problem.Anyway vicodin was my DOC,and I swear, minus the gambling stuff,it was like watching a movie about my life play out right in front of me.From hiding the pills everywhere,to lying about money,to making runs to buy pills, fill scripts.I just cried and cried.I often wonder if she stayed clean ,I hope she did.No matter what the subject I get emotional every week.

Thanks for the comment Dog.  I agree, we aren't always able to go to the treatment options they are, but if we put the money we were spending on drugs towards that, I think we could come pretty close.

I have seen addicts get down right mad about the program, and it makes me wonder if they dislike it because they don't like to see what they were like, or maybe they haven't come to grips with the pain they caused.  I don't know, this is just my opinion.

Have a good night.

Interesting thread. I've seen the program and I like it. I believe it does show the damage drugs can do. However, it's a little depressing because these people always have the option of going to some expensive rehab program, and that's not available to everyone (like me!). Still, I must admit I'm always fascinated by the episodes.
