pain killer detoxing

I have been taking pain killers everyday for almost 2 years now and i need a way to quit.  I have been known to take up to 20 pills a day and i have tried to quit cold turkey 3 times to no avail. The longest i have made it is 3 days before i gave in. Please give me a way to get off these damn things as it is ruining my body and life.

Another point I'd like to mention, the acetaminophen levels you take.  20 tabs/day could be from 7,500mg to 15,000mg.  The daily recommended limit was 4,000 mg/day and I think that may have been reduced to 2,000 mg/day.  An FDA panel recently recommended that all OTC products with acetaminophen be banned from sale due to the potential for liver damage.  Just some thoughts to ponder!

I had a 10 - 12 (10/325s) per day habit along with a few oxys and methadone, oh, and a 60 tab (50mg) script of tramadol per month that my doc gave me AFTER we talked about my hydro addiction.  Failed a number of times at CT.  The WDs were very debilitating.  I couldn't work and losing my job was not an option.  It took several months of reducing my usage.  It wasn't a taper but a general reduction in my overall usage.  Not endorsing that track over a scheduled taper, just describing my experience.  I got down to about 2 - 4 (7.5/500s) per day.  That was my jump-off point.  I had a week of WDs.  Really the same as CT except the intensity was significantly less.  It was unpleasant but tolerable.  No matter whether you taper or CT, there's no free lunch.  It's going to be unpleasant to some degree.  You will be able to quit when you decide that the unpleasantness of the addition is worse than the unpleasantness of the withdrawal.  I think today is 25 days clean for me.  I sleep about 4-5 hours per night.  My body's temperature regulation is still messed up but better.  I still have irritating fatigue.  But each day feels just a little bit better.  I look back at how I was 2 weeks ago and realize just how much better I am today.  I know that when I look back at today 2 weeks from now, I'm going to be that much better.  And I'm jazzed about that!    I wasn't sure I'd like sobiety, but I do.  I like it so much more than being tied to those pills.  Good luck with your challenge.  You can do this!

HI and welcome to the forum....sorry to here the predicament your in... C/T  can be pritty ruff off of 20 a day....you should try tapering down to a lower dose over the next month the less your on the less your final withdrawal will be...we dont post tapers in the open forum
but if you need help just ask we can send you one via the intant messenger its basicly
just taking a little less every couple of days to get your use down it does require a lot of discipline and you cant yo/yo your dose you just have to reduce your intake and stick with it...tapering can be uncomfortable if you go to fast but if done right the discomfort is manageable....after 3 attempts C/T I think it might be a good option for you...give it a try keep posting for support will try and walk you thew this
good luck and God bless....Gnarly
