Weaning Off Tramadol

Will weaning yourself off tramadol help with the WD symptoms.  I took it for a year to help with some rectal pain that I now know was IBS all the time.  I now take Bentyl for IBS it helps me.  So  I want off the tramadol ASAP.
Will my doctor help me with this?

I was taking 6 a day, 300 MG's a day.  I called my pain managment doctor's office and they agree a slow taper is best with this.  I'll be taking 3 a day for 3 days then 2 a day for 3 days, and then 1 a day for three days and then if I feel I need a half tablet a day, do that until I feel ok, then stop. I'll make a trip to my pharmacy and see what they say.  It's the only way to get off then without too much hassle.  I'll keep everyone posted.  WE CAN DO THIS!!

I agree with dominosarah as a taper is best for Tramadol if you were using for a long time and high dosage.  You need to tell your doctor you problem and they will help you though.  But I strongly advise against the Suboxone. (no offense girlnextdoor2)  It is another highly addictive drug and horrible side effects as well.  It will simply delay your detox and possibly trade one addiction for another.  Keep us posted and great job on wanting to get clean!

You want to taper off the tramadol as it does come with side effects.  Seizures can happen if you abruptly stop.  I would talk with your doctor and come up with a taper plan.  How much were you taking a day?
