Weird doctor visit...

... thought I'd ask here... I had a Vasectomy early October and was given Vicodin for the pain...  Well, I pulled a muscle in my back earlier and went to the quickie clinic and the Doctor gave me a muscle relaxer and suggested some Vicodin as well - but it's addictive and has "street value" she said... After telling her I wasn't going to sell it on the street she wrote the prescription.  She left and about a half hour later she brought this 'list' about getting Vicodin earlier in the month and she wasn't going to do it again.  What happened?  I could care less about getting Vicodin tablets but now I feel paranoid and she made me feel like 'big brother is watching me'   Do I have cause for concern?  Are the cops going to come knocking?

take them as prescribed for your pain if u do indeed have the pain degree to warrant them and only u can guage that...some have tram probs..some have vike probs..others have benzo blues..everyone is different and it is doubtful that u will become adddicted to 30 trams..but everyone is just warning you to be safe...and it is highly unusual for a doctor to run a check on u like u described without due cause..but it does happen..be sure u r being honest with yourself about anything u may need to deal with and your own life..that is your concern

BTW:    i have seen you post here and there but do not recall your story?  did you have a DOC and did you detox?  if u were priorly addicted to anything including alcohol, ur chances of becoming addicted to another drug skyrocket...I dont think anyone meant to say u will be addicted to trams after u take 30 of them..but you are on an addiction forum...if you come here and ask about pain meds for simple procedures like vasectomies, tooth pulled, mole removed..we will almost always say...ibuprofen, ice, heat etc..now if u come on and say i just had back surgery or a gall bladder removal..no one would say that...good group of people but they would still tell u to be cautious as we have all been burned by narcotics including trams for many

truly not meant to be a smart aleck but how can I get addicted to 30 pills and no way of getting more?   I've been reading these posts here on this forum and feeling for all of you, I just don't understand how "poster x" can get 10-15 pills a day...

Hello Brian sounds like the doc you went to is a real quack, she would have been better off giving you more vicodin. It is more effective for the  pain and nowhere near as addicting as the trams are. Please whatever you do do not take anymore of the tramadols (ultram) FLUSH THEM THEY ARE EVIL!!!!!!. I have a long horrible history with them and the docs still do not seem to realize how addicting they are, worse  yet they really do not help with the pain.

What you say may be true but I can honestly tell you that I live in constant pain but have quit taking all opiate and or related drugs because of my addcitive personality.  It's very easy for some to get caught up in the drug abuse (legit or not) if they have suffered from addciton.  It's an every day battle for me.  The pain is horrid most days but being a slave to a drug is worst.  There has to be a happy medium somewhere I just pray researchers find it!

That's one of the dumbest things I've heard.  Let's not give someone pain medication that will help the pain and give him something else that's just as addictive but doesn't help with pain as much.  15 pills after a surgery really isn't a lot plus it was 3 weeks ago.  The doc would have had a perfectly legit reason to prescribe you vicodin for back pain. Back pain can be debilitating.  She's either a new young doc or paranoid.  Then they make you feel like ****, like you've done something wrong because you sought relief from pain.   It ticks me off when people who need pain medication for legit reasons can't get it.

In many places....it seems especially so in the mid-west....there is an epidemic of opiate abuse.  Drs, for the most part, are running scared.  The solution in there eyes and to cover their a$$es is to just not give any 'red flag' narcotics (Vicodin is in that group) if the patient has received any within a certain time period.  It su cks for those who don't abuse them, but Big Brother is actually watching the Drs closely!

I've never taken Ultram, but the horror stories I have read on here I can safely say I will never take it!

Here is some info on ultram

I have seen alot of info latley on tramadol some every incorrect .So I thought I would put some infromation together so everyone will have a better understanding of it .

It is addicting
You do have ephoria
It should NOT be used by ANYONE with addiction issues.

What is the most important information I should know about tramadol?
Physical Dependence and Abuse

ULTRAM may induce psychic and physical dependence of the morphine-type (μ-opioid) (see DRUG
ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE). ULTRAM should not be used in opioid-dependent patients. ULTRAM
has been shown to reinitiate physical dependence in some patients that have been previously dependent on
other opioids. Dependence and abuse, including drug-seeking behavior and taking illicit actions to obtain
the drug, are not limited to those patients with prior history of opioid dependence

You should not take tramadol if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Seizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking tramadol. You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.

Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than 300 milligrams of tramadol in one day.

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. A tramadol overdose can be fatal. Overdose symptoms of a tramadol overdose may include drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, extreme weakness, cold or clammy skin, feeling light-headed, fainting, or coma. Tramadol may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Tramadol should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using tramadol suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication. Do not crush the tramadol tablet. This medicine is for oral (by mouth) use only. Powder from a crushed tablet should not be inhaled or diluted with liquid and injected into the body.

DON"T take the ultram...IF you are telling everything ( which why lie to us, maybe cops, but not strangers)  ...This is ********..On the 7th, and we are now the 24th, and he only gave you 15 pills.....Have you ever taken pain medicine before??  I take it if you don't know what ultram is then you are not an addict...When i was addicted, I threw ultram away, but after reading here, i am glad i did..anyway, sorry this happened to you

yes... on the 7th after surgery I had 15 pills prescribed...  I guess my point was/is this doctor really gave me the "gotcha" treatment --- esp. after showing me this report that I had Vicodin earlier in the month...    ( I even told her I had a vasectomy during the interview )   So she prescibed a ****-ton of Ultram (whatever that is) and flexirl...

I think there is a missing piece to this puzzle .Have you pick up scripts up earlier at any point .What  reason would the police have to be knocking on your door .If you have done nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about .What state are you from.
