What does Suboxone or Methadone feel like?

I am new here and have gotten A LOT of excellent advice and support in just the 2days that I have been posting.  I am now trying to make the descison on how to get out of this nightmare...CT or to taper.  In my previous post I stated that my goal is to do it over 4th of July weekend (dont have to work and kids will be away w/ family). But, I still would like to know the deal w/ Sub and Methadone... its clear to me from reading from everyones experiences that they are both just as addicting as the opiates you are trying to kick... but, why?  Does the secondary addiction begin bc it makes you feel high? Or is it because it stops the withdrawls and if u stop taking them they begin again???  I just want to understand and weigh all options and make a decision based on how my addictive personality would react or respond and would it be beneficial OR would CT just be my best bet... I would love to hear any suggestions

loretta, suboxone is a good tool to use to get off drugs if used right, it is very addicting and the withdrawl last twice as long, but if you get a plan together and go by it and taper off suboxone its good but you got to be head set on getting clean, the longer your on it the harder it is to kick, this is a old thread, you need to start a new post asking your question! also suboxone is a opiot, its very strong drug, but if used right it can be a good tool, if not used right it can be hell on earth, i see alot of doctors starting people on way to high of a dose, starting out instead of 16 and 20mg should be like 4mg and start tapering! hope this helped, god bless!!

you took 160mg of suboxone?  That is the craziest thing I have ever heardl  I hope you meant 16mg a day.  And yes there are withdrawals.  I guess everyone is different.  But you give any addict a mind/mood changing drug and we are going to get addicted and we are going to have withdrawals.  Our brains and bodies are so very different from the "normies" it hard for even us to understand how we are wired. I was addicted to dilaudid for years and was so scared to stop.  The withdrawals sucked. I had been on the methadone clinic before and knew I surely did not ever want to have to kick that again.  It almost killed me the first time.  Mainly from the sleep deprevation and the nervousnes..  I tried suboxone but it did not give me the high i was looking for.  My best bet is to check into treatment and do the 12 step way.  That is the only way that has ever worked.  The only problem I cant stay clean longer than a year and then I think something is going to be different and in a short time I'm all caught up again.  Good luck and God bless us all.  Its hell living this kind of life.

Suboxone is a miracle drug...the clinics put u on like 3 a day, thats too much, I got off heroin and pills using a half a day, just wait till you are at the point u cant handle the WDs another second (usually 12 to 20 hrs after u last use your DOC) take a half, than 8.hrs after that another half. Slowly cut down for about two weeks, than just be happy with out drugs. Hard to do, but if u can manage it, life gets better!

Every time I take subs it totally kicks my w/d but it does make me hella loopy I was taking 8mgs I started taking half and felt a lot better

There is no comparison between Methadone and Suboxone they are two different drugs.

Methadone is soooooo 19080's- archaic, old, outdated, ****** and unsuccessful, go find out how many ppl have successfully weaned off meth- most stay on for life.

Suboxone will CURE your addiction if you deal with the issues underlying. You could easily get 'er done in a year. I"m on 4mg and can easily go a week betweeen doses with very mild withdrawal.

I was an opioid abuser for 15 years. It started out after a car wreck and with a couple of scrips of vicodin. And over the years progressed into a 300 to 500 milligram a day habit of oxycontin, morphene plus whatever other pills like vicodin or percocet i would take. I finally lost all of my connections and had to do something so I went to a methadone clinic. They stated me out on 50mg and eventually raised me up to 100mg a day.after going there every day for three years I got so sick of all the bs groups and counselors that I had them take me down a few mgs at a time until 6 months later I was at 3mgs. Then I just quit. I didn't have any withdraw symptoms except my mind wasn't right. I was off of everything for almost 4 years and my mind never did get right. It just didn't work normally and I just didn't feel normal in general. A months ago I hurt myself pretty bad and the doctor gave me a script for percocet and instantly not only did the pain go away but I felt normal. My mind started working like it used too. Now I'm all FDup on the meds again. I am considering getting on suboxone and hoping I can get back off the pills and keep my mind working normally and just feeling normal in general even after I'm off the suboxone. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

suboxone was a life changer for me. was smoking and shooting up to 6 oxy80mg a day. got up to 9 at the most. started on 8mg subs and worked my way down to 2mg subs. now im off the life saving wonder drug suboxone. and been off all pain meds for a year now. yes i do think about and miss the feeling of my oxy problem but is it worth it.... **** no! i just smoke weed now and thats not even a every day thing for me either. suboxone is the #1 choice you need to make to change your life and get away from the hellish lifestyle you lived or are living.

I have been using roxi 30's for about 3 years now and i have been to detox, done it cold turkey, taken suboxone and methadone. My suggestion is suboxone. My withdrawls were too bad that every time i would try and stop i would be so sick i would just break down and get high. But once i started taking suboxone my world changed. It makes you feel normal. And thats all i wanted when i was sick. It binds to the opiate receptors in your brain so if you try to get high it blocks the opiate and is a waste. I had no withdrawls from suboxone. I took 160 mg a day for 4 months, then one day i decided just to stop taking it and i was fine. Methadone has worse withdrawls than the opiates you are trying to get off of. So i would say no methadone long term!! Good luck. This **** is hard to kick. Ive tried everything and im still trying to get off for good. You just have to want it hard core! Suboxone is not the miracle drug that many doctors make it out to be. Suboxone is very addictive, and is amound the top abused drugs of the world. I was an opiate addict and went through an outpatient rehab center, where I was origionally prescribed Subutex (8mg of buphenorphine) then Suboxon which is buphenrophine and naltrexon. Although Suboxone does contain naltrexon which is an "opiate antagonist" or whatever doctors call it, aka it covers your opiate sensors so you don't get the "high" that causes many to be addicted to opiates; it also contains opiates??? Make sense? No it doesn't. In fact you can easily remove the naltrexon by simply wiping it off, and by injecting Suboxone you will get even more of a "high" than regular opiates. Although, I personally have never injected anything, I know many addicts who became addicted to Suboxone because it is a higher potency than Oxy Contin, Dilauted, and Roxicette. I have now been on Suboxone for 4 months. I cannot go more than a few hours, without begining to withdraw. And Suboxone withdrawl is much much much worse than a regular opiate withdraw. And a Suboxone withdrawl last anywhere from 2-6 months, where as pain killer and heroin withdrawl last for 3-5 days typically. If I would have known that the doctors where exchanging one opiate for another, stronger opiate, I definitely would have reconsidered my treatment options. SUBOXONE IS VERY ADDICTIVE AND DANGEROUS IF ABUSED, I STRONGLY RECCOMEND CONSIDERING ALL OF YOUR OPTIONS BEFORE SUGESTING SUBOXONE FOR YOURSELF OR A FRIEND. Also many don't understande that Suboxone treatment for addicts is usually the shortest of 6 months, and most doctors want you to stay on it for 2 years. Do you really think it's going to be easy to quit an Opiate use after 2 years? No it's not. I DO NOT RECCOMEND SUBOXONE FOR ANYONE, UNLESS YOU HAVE EXHAUSTED EVERY OTHER OPTION AND HAVE A LIFE THREATENING ADDICTION THAT CANNOT BE STOPPED ANY OTHER WAY. And even then take it for the minimum amount of timw possible in an in-patient rehab, and get weened off before you leave the treatment center, because taking yours3elf off of Suboxone is nearly impossible.

I am on methadone and no it does not get me high it makes me feel normal again, I could not do it on my own i tried but i couldnt take it and i just kept relapsing!! The first day they will start you out on a low dose like 20-30mgs and you will feel so good you will have energy but after you get stabilized on the dose thats right for u, u will not feel like that! Yes, it will make you nod off until you are adjusted to the methadone dose you r on! I am so glad i took that step and got on a methadone program, you do have to go every day if u do what ur supposed to and pass all ur uas you can get more take home doses every 90 days, u will also have to attend coulseling at the clinic once a month! For me it has changed my relationship for the better also my relationship with my family is great now! I completely changed my life after i got on the methadone program! I really hope everything works out for u!!!!!

I wouldn't take either one of these to get off of Rx drugs unless you been on them for many years straight. I think it like using gasoline to put out a fire. I've seen several vicodin addicts on methadone clinics that were very sorry they ever took this big step up in the level of addiction. Besides this they have to go everyday to the clinic with Ali Babba and the 40 thieves. I myself had more success tapering on the drug I was addicted too instead of starting a stronger one. Long term sub can be a nightmare too but it seems to work better when used briefly for detox.

yeah mixing them could potentially cause withdrawal buta t teh same tyime most likely what would happen would be that the nalaxone and buprenorphine will block any effect the talwin would have so it would be pointless. and about getting on methadone its nota s bad as every post above. if youre addicition is severe enough or suboxone is not working then methadone is a great choice. there is no ceiling dose effects like suboxone and also blocks other opiates being abused. both are extremely tough tog et off of and need to slowly be tapered off oif, going off CT on both of them is a deathwish. lots of people have a wrong idea about treatment meds i ahve been on both of them ive also tried my own methods,- clonidine, tramadol, benzos-etc, suboxone and methadone both will get you midly high and they are both equally as addictive. so try suboxone first becuase even though its equally addicting it may be easier to get off of andtaht s by only a ltitle bit. going to counseling and group meetings are crucial in staying clean as well. best of luck to you- christos

methadone, first of all is a drug you have to SLOWLY increase your doses. that aside DO NOT GET ON METHADONE!!!!!!!! I was on hydrocodone and was put on methadone because i started ......well, was abusing it. I was on it for pain. works gr8 for the pain but very,very addictive. The wd's from the methadone are much worse than that of most others. PLEASE TAKE THE ADVICE HEAR AND STAY AWAY FROM THE METHADONE.    .........YOU CAN DO THIS

Methedone is nasty.  I was given a liquid form of it years ago from a "friend" that said it was just a strong pain killer.  Hey, I was a drinker and did not know a darn thing about drugs beyond marijuana and cocaine, and only a little about that.  Whoa...I drank that little shot of methedone and was a mess.  I was nodding, throwing up, totally out of it.  I guess it works for drug addicts coming off heroin and stuff like that...but, I would think cold turkey would be better than developing an addiction to methedone.  jmho.

You are thinking about it way too much. It's great that you are wanting to quit, but you just need to do it, and not worry about all of these things. I did the same things, until i was forced to quit in the hospital. I would not take Methadone if I were you, it is true that it's as bad if not worse than Oxi's or whatever you are coming off of. Suboxone is a great drug. You do not get "high" it was a "ceiling" effect that will not allow you to mis-use or get "high". The drug is really bueprenorphine/naloxone misture. The bueprenorphine is what keeps you from getting sick, it actually binds to the opiod recepters in your brain more tightly than oxi or heroin, and because of this binding action it is so strong it will not allow any other pain killiers to attach, therefore you cannot get high when taking suboxe. The naloxone is what keeps you shooting the drug. As soon as naloxone is introduced into your blood stream it will almost instantly knock off any opiod particles that are in your brain and send you into the worst withdrawl you have ever felt, because you instantly have no drugs in your body rather than letting you body get rid of it slowly. So point is DO NOT INJECT THIS STUFF. Soboxe is such a great drug thoughif you are serious about quitting. I am on the pure form without naloxone, I think possibly because of the amount of Oxi I was using the Subutex jsut did not work for me I don;t know why, but within 1 hour of taking Subutex I felt so much better I had a big smile on my face, because I was sick for so long. Again it's not going to get you "high" it may give you a short buzz, but that's about it. Good luck and I hope this helps you out.
