What does half life mean

I am new to this sight and this is my eigth day off of methodone. I quit coldturkey off of a 25mg. daily dose. I keep reading about methodones half life,what does that mean?????????

My fiance and I detoxed off 110mg.methadone.  The withdrawals from methadone can be quite debilitating but a positive frame of mind along with a strong vitamin regime makes alot of difference.  Please read my journal entries as it explains everything we did to ease through this transition.  
Coming off methadone is the best decision we have made in awhile.

The half life of a chemical is the time it takes to break down become inactive. If the halflife is 10 hours then in 10 hours half the substance will be out of your system...in 10 more hours half of that..whick would be 25% would be left ..then in 10 more hrs 12.5 and so on . Hope it helps. Corey

Every medication has a certain amount of time that it remains "active" before the body begins to metabolize or excrete the medication. The amount of time it lasts in the body before it is half gone is called the half life.
