What is Kratom?

I'm confused. I read it is herbal.

Is it used for withdrawal? Pain? To get high?  Is it addicting?

I have seen it mentioned alot. Just want to be informed.

GREAT post!

The w/ds experienced from opiates drives most people to a desperate search for that "miracle" remedy.  I get that not everyone looking for a substitute is looking to get "high", but they're looking for a way...ANY way to get around w/ds.  It's definitely one heck of a battle.  If I posted right now that I've discovered the cure for w/ds, and it involved standing on one's head naked for 2 hours, while eating blueberries and singing a children's song....there would be a whole lot of people looking ridiculous, you know?

(Disclaimer:  And, no, that's not a recommendation, please do not get naked and stand on your head!!  LOL)

You've made such wonderful, very important points in your reply.  Worth reading a few times.

this disease is so baffling, everyday i learn more how those of us that have it are alike in the way inwhich we think, i mean we are all different yes even how we approach recovery, but it seems that one of the most prevalent symptoms of this disease is wanting to manipulate and control how we feel at any given time, robbing us of any sense of patience or acceptance or understanding, that feeling the feelings we feel when we feel them would give us , so we don't experience any growth thru life, we actually stagnate and alot of times recede emotionally, .
i realize this today because in the last week or so there has been a question or two about alternative substances, and yes i researched Kratom when i was first deciding to seek true freedom from opiates, but like has been said it has its own set of problems, the thinking that leads to wonder about kratom being the answer is in itself the very problem. addiction is unsustainable.....recovery from addiction is freedom!

Ditto what sarah said.

If an addict could use things like Kratom, or anything else like that in moderation, then they wouldn't have a problem to begin with.  It's just another substitution, a search for a way around w/ds, which unfortunately, there IS no way around w/ds.

Even people on replacement drug therapies like Suboxone or Methadone have to face w/ds at some point.

My advice would be to steer clear of it.

If it sounds to good to be true it usually is.  Kratom has it's own set of problems.  I would avoid it.  We have had some people try this and it didnt turn out so well for them.
