What is a Fentanyl patch used for?

I just remembered about finding 2 of these a while back and she said she found them (ha) and meant to throw them away (this was before rehab and I flushed them down the toilet for her).  They were like 2.5 (I think), how do these work in the abuse world, aren't these really strong drugs or are they along the same line as OC's?

does this stuff come in a "lollipop" form. I read something in the journal of medicine about that. It is for cancer patients and it helps with there pain.

My journey with Fentanyl has been long and scary. I was on 1600mcgs of it on the lozenges. I am now down to 25 mcgs since march of 07. It was the worst withdrawls you can imagine. Flush those damn things asap! Bad mojo. I am still struggling with it. I want off, but due to my cancer, it doesn't seem to be a realistic goal. I wish I was off them completely. Sorry, I am an old timer from last spring and not all will be familiar with my story. I am a patcher, and know all about them.

My third cousin was in an accident and broke his leg. Turns out his leg broke because he had a early form of bone cancer. Breaking his leg and having that Xray probably saved his life. God works in mysterious ways. I am so glad she took this had this chance to change her life, and glad that you're so loving and caring. Be very proud of your daughter and yourself as well. God bless...

Scary stuff, I did flush them when I found them, that was before I knew of her extensive drug use about a year ago.  I hit my knees everyday and thank him for giving me my daughter back, I can see life in her eyes now, where for months they were completely vacant and numb.

Who would have ever thought that flipping a car could actually save your life??

Fent is like Oxy on steroids. It is the only opiate I ever used in which the high was so intense that it scared me. I knew if I continued on these, I would never even have a chance of getting high. I do think that the 25mg patches are the lowest dosage...but still nothing to play with. Flushing them is the best idea.

First synthesized in Belgium in the late 1950s, fentanyl, with an analgesic potency of about 80 times that of morphine, was introduced into medical practice in the 1960s as an intravenous anesthetic under the trade name of Sublimaze®.

Yes Fentanyl is very strong........

At the risk of repeating myself, I copied this for you to read. Hope it helps.

This medication should not be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Fentanyl can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. You should not use a Duragesic skin patch unless you are already being treated with a similar opioid pain medicine and your body is tolerant to it. Opioid medicines include morphine (Kadian, MS Contin, Oramorph, and others), oxycodone (Oxycontin), and hydromorphone (Dilaudid). Talk with your doctor if you are not sure you are opioid-tolerant.
Avoid drinking alcohol, or using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, other pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by fentanyl and may cause extreme drowsiness or breathing problems.

Fentanyl is a narcotic (opioid) pain medicine.
The Duragesic fentanyl skin patch is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain. The Ionsys fentanyl transdermal device is used only in a hospital to treat acute pain after surgery.
Fentanyl topical may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
