What is the FASTEST way I can get off Opiates?

I have been using opiates for years now, and I am only getting worse, I quit about 3 years ago for over a year and swore I would never go back to using and now I am 10x worse then I ever was and have even gone to snorting them. I have a fantastic job and a beautiful home a car and would like to think I have my life in order pretty well besides this damn addiction. Can someone PLEASE help me with a quit plan and some support cuz I just can't seem to stop using this time. I have some time off over the holidays and would like to stop using completly! For some reason it seems that I am only getting worse, yet my mind and body tell me that NOW is the time to get clean and sober. I have been reading up on some tips on how and what to do in order to stop, but nothing is really helping me. So please help me, give me some tips and suggestions! I am kinda a hypocondriact so when I see this stuff about heart problems and seisures I am worried that something bad will happen to me......AAAAHHHHH

I'm day 7 ct and its been hrd but you have to believe you can do this!

I had 240mg codeine day prescribed for 7 years.

Do yur homework, make a plan, confide in someone you can trust to be there for you-run your hot baths, fetch cold drinks etc.

You can do this If you really want to.  Be strong!

Use these forums and you realise you are not alone!

Hello all, I hve been on oxycontin for ten weeks now for severe headaches, I got to the point where the dose stopped working and I was having to increase weekly, last week i was prescribed a steroid to try to perk me up and unblock the headache, so three days ago i stopped taking the oxycontin, I will not lie I hav honestly never felt so low, sick, dizzy an shakey in my life you wake up and havnt a clue where you are and every single part of your body aches and you are shaking inside, but I am now on my third day and I can feel myself slowly getting better, I have been taking 20 mg of oxynorm when needed as the withdrawal gets too bad but just to let you all know it is possible to come off them you just need to b extremely strong and tell yourself that the longer you leave it the harder it will be to come off, if u hav any questions i am more than happy to help, jodi

i'm day 6 cold turkey and altho i'm not sleping great i feel alive.  Coincidentally i also feel repulsed that i allowed myself to be controlled by narco.

Be strong, choose your method either cold turkey, tapering, professional and set yourself a goal to stick to it.  You can and will do this = be strong!

I know some of the withdrawal symptoms seem horrendous but imagine it is like being prepared for seasonal flu and the only way though is to ride it out.  You can prepare for this - suppliments, nurofen or paracetamol, immodium.

Make it your new year resolution!

We are all here to support you because we have been there, are there and can see the light.

Sorry for jumping on the rapid detox thing. I have just read that it can be very dangerous and the relapse rate is very high. You were right that it is the quickest way. I thought you were recommending it. The one bad thing about reading posts is that we can take things completely the wrong way. I know you were just trying to help!
Best of luck to you in your fight!!

I appear to be catching some grief for my rapid detox suggestion.  You emphasized "the FASTEST way" so I answered the question.  If you'd asked "what is the best way" I'd of probably answered a little differently.

Thanks, I am "trying" to taper, but just as you say it is in my head, and my damn brain is telling me to continue using, I just can't seem to stop, I again, did the same thing to start today, did a 40 so I could get out of bed and then I am off till Monday, then I think I am going to stick a 25mg Fentenol patch on me for the 3 days and then I will be off work, so I can hopefully detox after that. As far as the rapid detox NO I am not going to do that. I have called one of the facilities in my hometown and they have beds so I am going to try to make it 2 days and if I can't I am enrolling. Here in Canada all that stuff is paid for by OHIP so it doesn't cost me a penny, but as a taxpayer I will NOT go unless i am READY to take the plunge and stick it out, so I guess we will see what happens over the next few days. I find the support on here to really help, I wish I had more support out here though. A lot of my friends have shunned me due to my problem and all I have tryed to do is be honest and open with them and it has just backfired. I could be liike all other junkies that say they are clean when they are not, but I chose to be truthful and it has gotten me blacklisted, I almost wish I had a sponsor so that when I felt like using I could call text or even email for some support and motivation. I guess the Lord really will lead me on my path and I will do it with Him....I HOPE

Someone above mentioned rapid detox. I wouldn't recommend a rapid detox center as there has been deaths associated with it along with other serious risks. If you google it you will see that. From what I have heard it is very expensive at around $10,000 and insurance will not cover it. I'd rather spend a week feeling miserable than that kind of money. The best way is to take the all natural route along with aftercare. Just remember that the withdrawals are temporary and will pass!!
Best of luck!

Hi There,

I am a hydrocodone addict for 3 years now, and watched it own me and make me a shadow of myself.

I decided to quit and went down to 3 pills a day. I guessw I really did not taper slowly, because I was sick and shaking like crazy. But I did taper at 3 and today I went down to 2 and feel a little sick, but manageable. I will keep tapering unitl I am off. There is a good vitamin regimen that many people use, read the forums, and they say it helps, get some and taper off if you can. The drug sickness is bad, but it won't kill you. You are strong, a warrior, and incredible to choose this difficult journey and be clean. The pain lasts a short time. Remember, it is your brain signalling your body to take drugs when you feel sick. Stay busy, watch a movie, rest with a big quilt and make tea. Comfort yourself, and know that time will pass and it will be over. I know you can do this. All of my love, rspect and prayers to you on your journey as I finish mine. We are strong!!!!!
Believe it. and a big hug to you.

if you have anxiety i recommend going to a vitamin store and purchasing valuriun root and sleepy time tea (extra strength)  sleeping was the hardest part of me quitting.  i drink a cup of the tea at night, in bed, while watching a movie or something along with taking two valuriun root pills and one 3 mg melatonin (all can be found at the store)....not only does it help me to sleep (very well) which keeps my mind clear and not so fuzzy, but it carries on in to the day and helps me remain calm (i have always had high anxiety).

i also do yoga almost every single morning.  yoga is amazing, it stretches you out and helps you work on breathing techniques which naturally relax and calm you.  i swear by this.  you don't have to go to a class either.  i went to target and bought a couple of videos and i do them alone in the comfort of my own bedroom.

you can do it.  the worst physical part only last a couple of days.  i am 22 days clean today and feeling terrific.  there are still moments where i am severely tempted, but i am doing much better.  and my head is much clearer.

hope this helps.

I take whatever I can get my hands on, some days I only do about 80mg yet other days I will do a bunch of 80's. So it's kinda an off kilter things as to "how much I use" per say. today I have only done 40, when I got up to stop my eyes from wattering so that I could get up and go to work, but I have been sitting here all day thinking about when I am going to do some more. I have been trying to keep occupied, reading and doing some paperwork here in the office, but mentally it's just as tough if not tougher then the physical part. I am off next week Wed @3 then off till Tuesday so I am hoping to wein down a bit for the next couple days and then stop cold turkey on the Wednesday.....I guess we'll see what the Lord has in store..........

I think that the fastest way to get off the opiates is to START today... If you have the means and strenght to taper.. that may be what works for you.. I was not able to do that so I just QUIT.. COLD TURKEY... (I was using between 8-10 Norcos x's 3 years for 2 back surgeries, spinal stenosis, DDD and Fibro)  but the day came (July 31st) that I realized I just couldn't do this anymore...my life had fallen apart... I got no relief from the pills and I just plain felt like poop... ALL THE TIME.. So.. I bucked up and told my husband and my mom and stocked up on the Thomas Receipe and today I'm 140 days clean... The first week was hell... the second week was better.. and so on and so forth... After about the 4th week... I started exercising everyday.. walking 3 miles, biking... and riding my horse... Exercise has been a great therapy for me... as it kicks in your natural endorphins and clears your head....
So, my suggestion is that when you can muster up the energy to get out and get moving... do so... and from there.. every day will get better...

My thoughts and prayers are with you on your battle...

Remember that:  EVERYDAY THAT YOU DON'T USE IS A BETTER DAY THAN WHEN YA DO!

Love and Hugs your way..
