Subutex (subxon) how long did you stay on it??

I wonder how long people have been on subutex.  I tried to stop but realized this drug helps my bipolar and makes me feel good all around.  The dr says I can be on it for a long time, forever if I want?????  He said he helps some with depression and may be helping the bipolar.  He switch me back to the orange pills because of my insurace, they pay for that and it is very hard to get them to pay for the subutex.

How long have you been on it???

Suboxone is a very dangerous drug, Many dr's who priscribe it do not tell u this , I've read many post plus spoke to a Dr , who was hooked himself , now he is a great addiction specialist and dedicated 10 years to help addicts and he commented on how many dr's have no clue what this drug does  , bipolar can be controlled with less dangerous drugs , the longer u wait eventually all comes to a end , I would recommend a Phychiatrist, I'm not a doc but I've been in this desease 32 years heroin / methadone / bipolar /a.d.d , I'm taking clonidine for the subox , it helps like 10 percent , I get hydroxyzine and anxiety meds , but the worse is the Suboxone ,, one day they will have to take u off , trust me I am going thru this crap , I also thought I was hooked for life , and they decreased my dose from 2-8 mils a day to 1 -2.05 a day it's hell , methadone yes I do know people who are lifers to this drug . Get off subox , that I recommend , sorry to ramble on but about 80 percent of dr's giving Suboxone only need a short course and they receive a certificate which then they can disperse this disaster to anyone with a small amount of opiates in urine ,,, tramadol is easier to detox or to detox from subox , but I do not know how or how much these  docs get paid to put u on subox , bipolar don't get treated with Suboxone , it was created for opiod users period ,

Hi Kris,

I took suboxone for nearly 4 years.  It worked very well for me, but I finally reached a point in my program and therapy where I was done and wanted off 100%.  I got off the sub 438 days ago and have never looked back.  I consider myself lucky, have never had trouble with cravings and I feel great.  Everyone is different and needs to be on sub for different times.  The Subutex is pure buprenorphine and does not have the naloxone in it like the orange suboxone (subutex is white).  Insurance companies probably don't cover the subutex as much for long term use because there is a higher probability for abuse.  If the suboxone is working for you, stay with it.  Keep in mind though that it is a very strong opiate and if you and your doctor decide at some point that you need to get off the sub, do it slowly - you must stop at a very very low dose.  Anything above 1mg can cause some long withdrawal symptoms.  Best of luck to you.

It sounds like your dr knows what to do for you. It would be very hard on you to stop either one while you are pregnant. Also the mental stress is alot more intense with your hormones going crazy. Just try to stay as relaxed as you can. Concentrate on your nutritional health right now. Is this your first pregnancy? How far along are you?

Yes, I think I will be on it for a long time.  I am on subutex right now because I was pregnant when I started.  The insurance will no longer pay for it so I have switched to subuxone, the orange pills.  It is all the same to me.  The insurance covered because I was pregnant.  As for the xantax, I will take it also like my dr told me.  He said for right now I need to take both because of the baby and the stress of my life right now.  Social Services is now gone because I agreeed to do a drug test.  It was postive for benzos but I had a script for it and showed them.  So the sub dr is treating my bipolar for right now because my psystrist(sp) is leaving.  I will go back to that office once a new dr comes on board where I was going to.  I trust my dr, he lets me come in when I need to and they call me back when ever.  He said when the time comes I will have to wean off of it, not just stop it.  It was horrible when I stopped even after 16days

I have been on suboxone for almost two years. Everyones situation is different though. I dont know how much longer i will be on it,ut some people stay on it for a very long time. I personaly think the shorter the better. But everyone is different. If I were you i would set a goal and stick to it. But you have to do what is right for you.
