I would say none of the above, although I did go to SMART for a bit.
I use Metaphysics and Existential debate to keep myself on the straight and narrow.
I also spend a great deal of time on Icanhazcheesburger . com looking at lolcats and Failblog.
They both give me perspective and gt me through the harder days. :-)
Exercise and this forum is what has kept me off meds for 16 months...very grateful to all who post here.

I confided in my dr. my husband and my children. They have all helped me along with the people on this site who post and offer suggestions and bring their own struggles into light. This has helped me alot and kept my mind on the right path even though some days are harder for me than others, I know that I am not alone. There is comfort in that for me. And as from the time I was a little girl, I have always believed in God and He along with my deceased dad are the two I called on to help me spiritually. I am 3 mos clean, still craving at times and still holding on to the things dear to my heart and keeping the faith in more than one way!
God bless us all

Thank you everyone for responding, I appreciate you taking the time to explain what has worked for you. Hopefully even more people will respond still!! :)
Someone mentioned a SMART meeting the other day, SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. I don't know much about it except what I've read the last few days but it's a recovery program that is very different from NA. There's a website (just google smart recovery) and it has tons of info that may appeal to people who have a hard time relating to AA/NA.
what are smart meetings?- similar to NA?
I guess some would say I don't have aftercare because I only use this site now, but it has worked. I attended N/A for a short time in the past, and have went to see me aunt who is an addiction specialist, so I have used a variation I guess. I am definately a more spiritual person now and that helps me with my recovery.
My treatment for opiate abuse is long term suboxone treatment. I have tried everything else and none of is has worked for me. Along with the suboxone I also attend to group meetings but not AA or NA because these 2 organizations have turned to **** and are no longer conveying the correct message. This seems to be working for me very well. Other things that I consider part of my recovery regim are working, exercising and playing music. Suboxone is the best way for opiate addicts. Diabetes, cancer and all other diseases are treated with medicine, it only makes sense to treat addiction the same way. Thanks

My recovery was from alcohol, in AA 23 years ago (and continuing).
Alcohol recovery is from one substance; drug recovery is more complex, involving tapers, therapeutic drug programs, etc., and a forum like this is much better than meetings for disseminating information.
On the other hand, meetings are much better for personal contact, especially finding a sponsor, an experienced person you can call 24/7, who will keep track of you and guide you through the labyrinth of recovery.
I did go to meetings, but don't now. I use this site. This site and helping new comers gives me the motivation to maintain my own sobriety...
i go to meetings..and i post...the forum is a form of recovery for many...i dont think that posting is always enuf for all...but it may be for some...people tend to come on in the heighth of wds and leave..course many do the same with meetings as well...to stay clean long term..a long term recovery plan kix..makes it easier and all...for me it is meetings and medhelp
I couldn't figure out how to add another poll option!! so I just wanted to make clear - if you choose the last option - what is it that you're doing?
What's your variation? Or what it is that you're doing that's completely different than the options listed?
Thank you to anyone who may participate in this poll!! :)
