I know where you're at, I was in the same situation 3 days ago.  Sunday was my last day of Norco.  Some people may say that 5 months is not a long time, but you know what --- that is where it all starts. It does not take long for addiction and it gets worse pretty quickly.  If you continue, get ready to lie to doctors, be dependent on the pills in almost every aspect of your life.  Please note that I do not profess to be an expert, but I've been through it.  I'm a grown man and have begged/cried to get what I wanted, there is no reason to go there.

I think it's awesome that you're acknowledging it so quickly, you're very smart and very lucky.

Freedom007 has some very good advice, read some of the other posts here, heck you can read mine too.  If you want to continue with the meds are you ready to lead a life of depending on those little pills?  Life is much better than that, those little pills distort reality.

If you have access to a Chemical Dependency Program, go there -- today.  They WILL help you with withdrawal meds.  Do not make an appointment, get in your car/motorcycle/moped/bus and do not feel ashamed.  I cried my butt off, but it was the best thing to do.   Trust me, hundreds upon hundreds of people do this daily and visiting this site was the best thing I could do.

To answer your original question -- expect restless sleep, arm and legs cramps, those were the worst for me.  Hot baths work wonders (I used Epson salts too).  You won't sleep well either.  My first night, I took about 5 baths,  I'm sure the neighbors weren't too happy with all the noise at 3am, but hey, it's my life and poo on them!  The second night was 2 baths and about 5-6 hours of sleep.   Last night was a full night of sleep, but the CDRP gave me some non-addictive sleeping aid.

I *strongly* recommend you visit a CDRP -- if you can --  If you don't have medical coverage, go to a community hospital and demand attention. They WILL give you other meds for the cramps, nausea, etc.  Do NOT take no for an answer.  If you lived close to me, I'd take you myself.

I like to type, so please disregard my ramblings, I always like to expand on my thoughts.

PLEASE read some other posts here -- read the ones where people are taking 15, 20, 30 pills a day.  Read the ones where people lose their job, lose their houses and lose the ones they love --  if you continue, you'll be right where they are.   I used to say "I can control it" -- it doesn't work.  I started with 4 pills, then 5 pills, then 6 and then finally up to 8 a day, which is not much in comparison to some other folks here.

I am on day 3, and you know what, I feel pretty dang good.  Legs still bother me a bit, but nothing too bad.

Thanks for posting here, I admire you -- I wish I would have posted a long time ago.

Just keep reminding yourself "Just a few more days"  I know it's demanding, but it DOES pass.

Well, five months is not that long to have been taking pain meds...so that is the good news.  The bad news is that is doesn't take long for these things to get a hold of you.

Try these things...

Hydration - water, and lots of it.  Hot baths - with epsom salt, helps extract the toxins and calms you down.  Protein Shakes - gives your body the amino acids that it needs to rebuild itself.  Hylands Restful Legs - if RLS becomes a problem, otc, natural remedy for one of the more annoying detox side effects.  Exercise - sounds difficult, but even a 15 minute walk helps get your blood pumping and natural endorphins kick started.  Imodium (or alternative) - for upset stomach, cramps and the runs.

Educate yourself...and read the stories of those who have 5, 10, 15, 20+ years of suffering to this evil disease.  Many have lost their families, jobs, homes, self esteem...and the most ultimate of things, their Lives.  You can stop now and be better for it.  Or you can give in and make it 10x harder down the line.

Tell someone you trust...that way you can have someone that will understand what you are going through...but most importantly, someone that can keep you in check should you slip up.

Congrats on taking the first and hardest step...the will to get clean.  Stay on this site...there are some amazing folks here that have come back from almost every desperate situation.
