When do you know you have an addiction to OxyContin?

I'm a business management major at ASU and was hit by a drunk driver a year ago. I was perscribed 80mg OxyContin twice a day after two months in the hospital.  I'm down to 40mg but I started snorting 1/2's every once in while, then couple times a week, then an entire pill every other night to go to sleep.  Then I bought a tea strainer so I could grind the pills down when not at home and do maybe two or three pills at once sometimes.  I fall short on my schedule every single month before my perscription refill and end up trying desperatly to find OC on the streets.  I am a very strong willed person and I tell myself everytime I get a refill not to do it again, and it actually keeps getting worse.  I feel like I can't control it.  Is this addiction?

perhaps the day you crushed and snorted them was the day you lost....snorting is addict behavior...never did this so you may have been well on your way before you snorted them...fine line we cross to become an addict...hard to look back and say "that was the day"   the day you snorted them is usually a sign that you were ...when u quit using them as prescribed...and i have never seen a script read.."snort 1 pill every 6 hours"...or continue to use them even if u dont need them anymore...all point to addiction

there you go.......kick the poor guy in the groin and then smile and pat him on the back.

You know your addicted when you can't stop taking them because you become sick, and  a strong mental urge out-weighs your logical thinking.  I think I made sense.....to me anyway......

your story is alot like most of ours here. started the pain pills for a medical reason, then wake up one day, and realize that you are addicted to them... To the point of mis use, no matter how hard you try, you can seem to do it.
You are in the right place. there are alot of people here that care and will support you. like cathy said, now what do you want to do about it??
Good luck, and know you have all the support you need right here...
