Where to begin...

What options/programs are availabie? My niece just informed me she is addicted to roxys and needs help.
My experience is with alcohol and the recovery process may be the same, I'm assuming the withdrawal is different
and can be dangerous. She said when she tries to stop she gets pain is in her joints along with other withdrawals.

She is 23 and uninsured where do we begin?

Thanx Aunt Ann

I was addicted to percocet and oxycontin.  I was taking very large amounts of both pills and had been for a few years.  I live in Canada where Detox and rehab are paid for, I can tell you right now I had to do everything on my own.  I tried to go to a medical detox, and rehab, but it seemed like when I was ready to quit wasn't good for them.  Nobody ever called back and still 3 1/2 months later they still haven't called back to give me a date so I can get the proper help from rehab. My fiance, my Mom, and Dad, and I called consistantly for help.  My family and I just had to do it ourselves.

I suggest for her to do it at home with family help.  She will feel like she is going to die, but she won't.  It took me 15 days before I felt any better, but everyone is different. I see people on here who are okay in 5 days (lucky them)  I also heard it takes longer for women to get the drugs out of thier system.  Like your situation, My mothers experience was with alcohal as well.  Having my Mom with me for the withdrawals helped alot, because she knew what it was like to go through all of that.  It helps when people know what your going through.  She will need alot of support, I hope that she can get through it.

Several options. Would be nice to know a little more. How much for how long has she been doing?  The withdrawal process is similar, but not identical. Alcohol is one detox that can kill you. Narcotic withdrawal wont kill you without a pre-existing condition. Although you might wish you were dead for a few days. You have options of tapering her dose down - but I am thinking that she is probably getting her pills from the street. Other options would be an inpatient 30 day stint at a rehab - most counties fund this type of treatment........just quiting cold turkey is unpleasant - but doable. There is also replacment therapy - suboxone or methadone....known as "harm reduction therapy" - - wouldnt say to go that route. You are at a good place to begin - - keep posting and reading the old posts and you will learn a great deal.  Good luck to her ...
