i honestly dont know enough about Sub much less taken during pregnancy but my advice would be to consult your OB. (do you have one yet? how far along are you? does your dr who gave you sub know you are pregnant? ) I want to congratulate you on your pregnancy and for getting clean for your baby. That speaks volumes about you. I wish you and your baby the best. Please stick around here, you will get alot of support and info.
hi karan, have you talked to your dr about this? you have to be careful since you are pregnant and it is always best to involve your dr. there is some info in the health pages about w/ds and pregnancy. good for you for wanting to stop it all for the baby. thats awesome.
I have managed to stop taking the oxy's. And I do NOT want to go back to them. And I never planned on staying on the sub long term anyway, but now that I know this I want off the sub as well.
Lets see, to answer your quest. yes..I have an obgyn but haven't gone to my first prenatal visit yet. I just found out saturday morning after taking 3 HPT's. And I have my dr. who gives me the sub. He is a long term sub advocate, and originally wanted me to stay on the sub for 1 year, and I didn't want to and never planned on it. I don't know if he will let me get off the sub. And I want to. i mean, obviously the baby's health is all that matters to me. So I would rahter be off all opiates then take the sub. If there is a way to taper then stop, I would much rahter do that then stay on it and have my baby ingest it and go through w.d itself. That is not fair to the baby. SO I wanted to see if anyone here has successfully stopped an opiate or sub while preggers and had a healty baby or no miscarriage. I don't want to lose this baby.
Thanks for all your help.
One more thing, if I talk with my obgyn about it can they make me terminate the pregnancy? Or will they tell my family and bf? Will they still deliever the baby? or should I do this through my sub dr? I am so scared for the safety of this baby I cannot stress to anyone. I can't believe I had such a hard time getting pregnant for 5 years and now all of a sudden I am. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and I want this baby and I do NOT want to go back to using and want off the sub now. I just wnat to make sure I can do it safely. And not hurt the baby.
i do not think the dr would termonate the preg. i have not heard of one doing that. they can not tell your family due to the heppa laws...it would be unethical for him to tell them. please just talk to him and let him help you taper..or at least give you advice where the baby is concerned. the info on sub says there is not enough studies done to determine whether it is safe for pregnancy. subtex is suppose to be safer during pregnancy. i think that info is in the health pages as well.
First off do make sure you tell your OBGYN at your first appt... No they cant make you terminate your pregnancy and I highly doubt they will terminate you as a patient.
Many women get pregnant while on opiates. I know its scary but it is the best thing you can do for your child to be 100 % up front with your doctor.
Alot of women choose not to tell there doctors and that puts bother the baby and you the mom at a disadvantage . Your doctor can not disclose this to your family or BF.
Are you taking suboxone or subutex if you decided you want to stay on it while you are preg talk to your sub doctor about subutex if has been known to be safer .
You are already down to 2mgs and that's great .I am not a doctor but I think you might be able to work something out with your doctor to get all of the way off of it or stay on a small dosage (witch you are already on).
Congrats this will be a wonderful thing
No No they would never make you terminate you pregnancy hunny. They will help as best as they can. They really are all about the baby and mommy! But they will probably drug test your baby when he/she is born. IDK if they will drug test for the sub though, but i am pretty sure they will check for opiate abuse!?!
I think the tapering idea is a really good one. No matter what though, it's going to be hard. You can do it though
THank you all so much for your responses.
Let me ask this, is it possible to get off opiates while pregnant. I mean, if its at a low dose? I am already not taking the oxy's, that is done, now i am on the sub and have been for 2 weeks. So if I continue to lower my dose can I get off? I don't want them to tell me I have to stay on it? I will tell my obgyn. I just don't want everyone finding out. I dont want to hurt this baby at all. ANd i want off the suboxone. I don't want to stay on it. I am only about 4 weeks along. I found out early. And again, I am only taking about 2mgs a day, if that. Sometimes its less and someitmes its every other day. I just wanted to know what the obgyn would do? They can't prescribe me more sub, only my sub dr.can do that. And they can't make me go back to my DOC can they?? i don't want anything in my system. I just want off it all. Is this possible? WIth enough tapering??
I know I sound like a broken record. I am just so happy and want this baby more then anything and to lose it will devastate me. ANd I want to be clean no sub no nothing.
one more thing..Just so everyone knows..I know I can't just up and stop the sub. 2mgs is not that much,, I have been on it before once and took it for a month and tapered and stopped and was clean for 8 months then relapsed. Anyway, I know I can't just stop ct now and that I have to taper. I just want to know if its possible to taper and come off sub while you are preggers...thanks so much..
It's absolutely possible!!! Infact, your body could quite possibly work over time to get you better for the baby! You have a very good game plan for yourself and your baby! Just stick with it and get clean. Also, i seriously think you should be a little more upfront w/the childs father about what is going on with you. IDK if he is understanding or not, but when the time comes and you start going through the W/D's, even if they are light, you will need him. Also, with him knowing what is going on w/you, you are less likeyly to fall right back into the trap!!! Make sense???
Can you take RLS medication while pregnant?
pbear, thanks so much. You are right. I probabyl should tell him. But I am not sure how he would react now. Especially when he has asked me in the past and I have just lied, and lied. I don't know. My main concern is getting all the opiates out of my system...and that is =for sure..
Oh and will my OBGYN want to talk to the dr.that writes me the sub? I mean, will they need to talk?
they may that would be something I would ask at your obgyn appt
Karen, I tapered off of the Suboxone with no problem at all.....but quickly relapsed. That's what you will have to watch out for, is relapsing. Your brain is wired to take opiates to function for years now, it will fight to get what it needs, even with a baby.
Were you also pregnant though? Thanks so much for your help..I truly appreciate it...
i just wanted to add that you shouldnt take the Thomas recipe (I think you mentioned it in your 1st post?) THere are probably herbs in there that should not be taken during pregnancy and could cause problems. I would suggest a good prenatal vitamin and make sure you get at least 800 mcg of folic acid, but 1,000 mcg (thats MICROgrams, not milligrams ) is better IMO. If you are not already taking these, go to the store today! the folic acid is particularly very important in preventing birth defects during the earliest weeks of pregnancy. Good luck to you and congrats again. I assume this is your first child?
I know how hard it is to tell your partner the truth after all the lies. I had to do the same thing and it was not easy. But now that it's all said and done I'm glad I told him. Not only was he a huge help while I was going through w/d's but he also keeps me in check now on a daily basis so that I don't slip and relapse. You will need and want all the support you can get, so just break down that wall and talk to him about it all. You will be glad you did!
you can put yor baby at great risk coming off.you need to be honest with your dr.some drs will take you down very slowly. some will hold your dose. often times a dr will take you up on your dose. because there is a very high risk of stillborn if your baby go's into w/ds. not trying to scare you but i know alot about this.we me and my wife has been there.it doe's not matter if you are at 1mg or 80mgs the baby may or may not have w/ds
Thanks rick. Well, the baby is only 4 weeks old. I am only one month pregnant and i do NOT want to continue to use sub. I would much rahter come off. So you are saying there is no way to get off the sub?? That there is no way to taper then stop? So I have to stay on opiates while pregnant?? I understand goin through w.d and all, but there has to be a way to stop???
im not a dr but my wife stayed on.because we where told it is the safest way. i geuss it depends on your doc. we taked 2 many because we where so scared. she stayed on and even uped 5mg near the end because of the baby being streesed. we hated it but it worked and the baby had no w/ds. now she's coming down.
hmmm...yeah..I can't imagine how it is safer to keep taking the opiates? I mean, I guess I can see that when the baby is older and you are father along..but now?? THe fact that they would rather keep me on suboxone is weird to me. I don't want to be on it. I know I put myself in this situation, but I never thought I could or would get pregnant. And now that I am I dont want any of those things getting into my babies system. I would much rather taper to a low, low dose then stop. I cannot do that?? there is no way to do that??
I was also told that coming off the opiates would hurt my baby or cause me to lose him by a lot of people online. But after talking with my doctor they assured me that coming off would be the best thing for me and the baby. Especially since you are only 4 weeks you should allow your doctor to make that decision with you. It might be different if you were a few months already, but you are only 4 weeks. There is a lot that the doctors can do to help you and ensure that your baby is safe too. Please.... talk to your partner and then take him with you to see the doctor. But don't try to change your meds by yourself until you see the doctor. If you call and tell them your situation they might see you now instead of waiting till you are 6-8 weeks like most doctors do. Just a suggestion!
well they say in recovery to put yourself first. we could not we put are baby first. it was no longer what we wanted it was what are baby needed that we put first.i'm just glad we were infomed .to do right thing and have a healthy baby i wish you luck
going from oxy to sub is like going from the pan to the fire
