Withdrawls and Chronic Pain

I'm currently on day 6 and feel like I'm over the worst of the withdrawl symptoms, I am however experiencing severe kidney pain.  I guess I'm just wondering if the pain I'm feeling is real because of my kidney disease of if it's rebound pain.  I've looked through some older posts and see that several people that starting taking pain meds for chronic pain and ended up abusing them as I have, have talked a lot about rebound pain. I'm at the point where I want to take that pain medication so badly but don't want to step back into that nightmare of abuse.  I'd love any comments or advice any of you might have. Thanks.

Rebound pain is VERY REAL! I am on day 4 (thank GOD almost 5)...I have chronic back pain, my spine is collapsing. The pain today....even after taking Advil every 5 hours barely is tolerable. BUT, I did this once before so I know that the pain does get better. Will it be gone, no, but it will not be like this.
I think we know our bodies...you sound like you have been dealing with this for awhile....What do you think? Maybe that is the wrong question! lol Our addict minds are incredibly manipulative and will convince us we NEED the meds...truth is, more times than not, we are abusing them......like you said, a months supply in a couple of days. That was me...I just wondered where was it going to end. No amount I took, after awhile worked for pain, it became so temporary.
IF it is safe, considering you medical condition, wait a day or two more.... Try the Aleve.. I perfer the liquid gel Advil, I can take 800mg every 6 hours. Aleve does not work for me.
Remember your body is healing.....and your mind.

Keep fighting....if you are abusing the pills, perscribed or not, you are doing the right thing! Keep posting!

trdofbeingtrd: Thanks for the advice, I'm gong to take aleve right now.  Stupid me I don't know why I didn't think of that. Guess I'm just trying so hard not to take the narcotic pain meds that I forgot that there's other stuff available.

weezer555: I have MSK (medullary sponge kidney disease) so I pass a stone every 1-2 weeks and I'm also having a problem with my kidney tissue actually calcifying both of which cause my pain. My MD's didn't cut me off they just think I'm a little dependent because of long term use not addicted.  I think otherwise because it's taking more and more medication to control the pain and I am not taking it responsibly. They have me taking MS Contin twice a day and Percocet 4 times a day for everyday pain and Demerol for severe pain. No matter what I say to the whole team they don't think I'm an addict but I know I am. It's pretty obvious I'm abusing and self medicating because I'm going through a months supply of medications in a matter of days. I was taking each of the medications at different times of the month as I received my refills. I want to prove them wrong and stop so I went cold turkey beginning Saturday and really didn't feel too bad until last night and today when the kidney pain really kicked in. My team includes my PCP, Nephrologist, Urologist and Pain Specialist. Any advice?

Youre not providing enough detailed info for me to understand the situation. What does the prescribing MD say? Are you going cold turkey on your own or did MD cut you off for some reason. What opiate were you taking and what is your diagnosis?

Rebound pain is real. Here is a great test for the pain. If it is safe for you, take excedrin, if that is not safe for you, you can try aleve, (spelled that wrong). When you take it, if the pain is relieved, then chances are it's rebound pain. There will be some people with no more knowledge on here soon, and they can help more.
