The first time it took about a week.  This time a bit earlier.  But by the end of a week should be much better for you.

I was taking 20+ 5mg Vicodin a day for about 6 years. I went cold turkey. Day 1 I had anxiety over the withdrawals so bad, I took myself to the ER.   I told them what was going on, they prescribed me clonidine (helps with the symptoms).  I agree Day 3 being the worst, but with the clonidine it was so much easier than the other times I had tried this...well I shouldn't say tried, because honestly I was just waiting to get paid to pick up more pills.  It gets better...by Day 5 you should start feeling a bit like yourself again.  I know on Day 5 I had an overwhelming sense of happiness.
When I went to the ER they did a test on my liver too, stating that the amount I was taking could do severe liver damage...fortunately i'm ok there.  I felt once I hit Day 5, I knew I could do this.   I think the fear of withdrawals prevented me from stopping.  No i'm on Day 15, and I feel a lot better.  I'm not going to lie and say everyday is great, it is life after all.  I'm just saying today i'm not taking any pills (no clonidine, no motrin, and definately NO narcotic).  Good Luck to you.   I'm doing this alone, and this site has provided me so much support and determination.  Keep posting, we'll help you to succeed, and pick you up if you do fall.  Take it day by day.  Don't use today.

I agree with kyle.  I actually went to my doctor yesterday on day 4 and told her.  So glad I did.  Also, told ALL of my family.  Makes a big difference.  Good luck.  You will feel better soon.

P.S.
Something I did during days 3 & 4 was put up what I call my roadblocks - I emailed my doctor, dentist and pharmacy and let them know that I am an addict and that I want my med record to be red flagged; no opioids (sp?) to be administered. I also told a couple of friends who use meds for legitimate reasons, who'd given me a few in the past, that they were to refuse if I ever asked for drugs again. I came clean to wife so, just in case, she will know that scripts for Norcos and the like are not to be issued. Although I'm hopeful that I will never use again, I can't be sure that a year or two down the road, if offered a pill, that I'd have the willpower to say no.  This was a very important step for me, and VERY easy to do during the hell of 3 & 4.

Hang in there.  As everyone before has promised it will only get better from here.  The timeline from my experience is Day4/5 you see a major improvement in symptoms. Day 7-10 the mental cravings and depression suck.  By Day 14 you really start to feel better.  By Day 21 you cannot believe how good you feel.  Then the days and weeks fly by and you will be moving along with life.

I am at Day4/5 and feel ok, I have done this rodeo too many times, so I know what to expect.  Please do not be like me and cave in and go back on the pills.  This time I promised myself this was it.

Just give yourself 30 days, is that too much to ask and then go from there. I promise if you do, you will not ever want to go back.

Good luck

As you've read, we're all different, however, day 3 for me was the worst. I started feeling a little better towards the end of day 4, then day 5 was noticeably better. Hang in there - you'll be posting day 4, then day 5, then day 35 before you know it.

I feel your pain! Be proud of yourself for making it this long though! It is so tough... I am currently trying to taper myself off of hydro 10s & I am having withdrawals so bad. Stay strong, you can do it!!

if thats the correct amount i would estimate three to five...your almost over it. think of it like a very nasty case of the flu...it has to run its course.

please make this one stick...whats your thoughts on aftercare?  i highly recommed meetimgs. in the beginning i thought i could beat this thing bu myself..no way. you need to go to meetimgs..they make the difference on getting clean...and staying clean!! it takes 90 days for a habbit to develop...90 days to loose a habbit. thats a fact.  are you detoxing because you ran out early or are you finished chasing? it dosent matter...not judging you...want to help you. you can ask me anything...ask me i will be as open as honest as i can...and sometimes im a little blunt but not to be mean...just to help you.lol.

if i can jump off of 120mgs or more of oxycontin...i promise you can jump off of 8 tabs. i promise this os the hardest thing you will do. but its the most rewarding thing youll ever do!! pills steal our respect for ourself our dreams joys and everything good.....they will chew you up and spit you out. they make you embarrased ashamed guilty hollow and empty. but thats not the real you!!  finding sobriety meams finding yourself again. you will be amazed at the support you find here. total strangers that are so caring and supportive will help you. we are all the same...no judging. we all try to get clean stay clean.

i want to help you suceed. and with this forum prayers meetings honesty and openly talking about addiction...this disease can be managed. i promise you...stick around talk ask questions post....it will get better...just knowing your not alone...millions of people have been sucked in and millions have broke the chains that bind them is so encouraging... im glad your here...and taking that first step is HUGE

hello jwheeler....

now this is MY timeline and experience with hydros....four days...maybe five...thats my time line.

getting thru withdrawls stink to put it one way...all the trips to the bathroom...cramps shakes sweats...ugh.. it should be improving for you....how long and how much youve been taking has a big factor...so if you were taking say 4-8 a day for six months your detox would be a lot easier than mine....10-20 a day for yrs...i wished a thousand times i would have walked away from hydros before i did.....i will pray for you!! i mean that from the bottom of my heart!. how long and how much were you taking? and why? it helps to talk about this to get thru and see your not alone..is this your first time detoxing?

im so glad youve made it to three days!! it will get betters....hugs...bama
