And I also didn't want to hurt my baby, so there was serious motivation there for me not to take it. I put the bottle in a plastic bag and stuck it in my freezer. lol

Yes. Please talk to your doctor. When I found out I was most likely pregnant and talked to a nurse about it, I have never gotten a call back so fast. My doctor was like stop taking that. NOW! And then she called in the sertraline script for me. I was sick, and did withdrawal from it, but I was so sick and miserable and anxious and depressed already, it didn't bother me so much. Please talk to your doctor!

Hi tj my name is ike. I was taking Xanax for over 14 years. The 6 months before I went into detox I was choking them down with a solid case a beer daily. I took as many as 8 mg per day.

I think you should tell your doc ASAP/yesterday. The amount of Xanax you're taking may seem like a little but it may still cause wd's. Being pregnant ramps the necessity up quite a bit. Now is the time to come forward so the professionals can help you ease off your med. More than anything/anytime  else you've done in your life, now is the time for you to step up to the plate. It is of the most up most importance that you make the attempt to get on with your life clean and sober so you can give your upcoming baby a chance in this world. Remember, you are worth it and your baby needs you MOM! Get help and keep posting. Best wishes and Prayers to you. ike

You need to talk to your OB ASAP.  Do not try to adjust your dose yourself.  Xanax is pretty strongly contraindicated during pregnancy.  It's a class D medication in terms of pregnancy risk.  Here's some more info:

http://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/alprazolam.html

The conundrum is, though while Xanax isn't advised to be taken during pregnancy, stopping it or adjusting your dose may also be just as harmful.  This is why you must get your OB on board to help you formulate a plan moving forward that keeps you and baby the safest possible.

Best of luck!

And, sigh, I lied about how much I'd been taking. It was more like 2mg on occasion.

I was on xanax as well when I found out I was pregnant (which was over three years ago now). I also stopped cold turkey and my doc switched me to a low dose of sertraline. But at that time I was only taking half a mg at night to help me sleep. I remember being sick, but I had morning sickness so bad and was so depressed it just added to it. I stopped the xanax when I was nine weeks pregnant (surprise baby). What dose are you on? I think if I would have been taking more my doc wouldn't have stopped me so abruptly. Has your doc recommended a safer med to take during your pregnancy? The sertraline really helped me once it started working. No anxiety or panic attacks.

No no,this is for all addicts, but I have seen quite a few pregnant women on here since I started this forum a few weeks ago. I'm 35 year old female addicted to oxycodone for the past 11 years. I'm on day 23 clean and this forum helped a lot. I come here every day whether to post or just read others posts. Once you have the wee one you should come back or even hang around and and check the site out. :)

yes im prescribe them but I stopped when I found out and got really sick so I started taking them again and my doc told me not to stop as my calmness will help the baby as opposed to me stressing and having my bad panic attacks

We are not allowed to give tapering advice on here. You need to see your doctor. Were they perscribed by your doc? Explain what's up And get some help for the same of you and you're baby. Goodluck.
