Absolutely, ol' tort over there is in classic denial! at the very least, lacking social grace. It takes BIG GUTS to come on this board and talk about addiction and be really candid in hopes of helping others and ourselves. The information here is treasured by those that attend, if you sign on, you better show some respect. Let us know how we can help you with your struggling family member, and maybe even yourself.
See, I did not always see my behavior as "an addict," I thought I was "clever." Turns out asking your friends for Rxs. 'cause you threw your back out, etc. and stealing from your family is NOT normal, and not acceptable behavior.  Staying on anti-anxiety meds (benzos) for more than two weeks causes physical dependence. You might be logging on for "the recipe" some day!

NEW DRUG TO BEWARE OF-KADIAN (morphine sulfate)-doctor rx'd 100 mg.for me to replace the 10mg vicodin-these Kadian are time-released, but I see trouble ahead. I was only taking 4-6 V's in a 24hr day, but these 100 mg. seem REAL strong. I suggest caution. For me, I'll go back to my roxicodone, and forget these suckers!

Lots of honesty on this board-too bad Tortilini doesn't see his addiction problem-I sure do; thanks Tort for the reminder that we can all justify using if we allow ourselves the chance. Right now my pills are only as room away and although I feel decent the FEAR of "pain" is making me jones.
Heads up!

From all my relapses I found some things that definetly helped me and is at this very moment helping me through another withdrawal week. I found that valerian root which is what valium is derived from is a natural calming herb and for me really helped me to sleep the night through some of the "fidgets". During the day I took nux vomica which is an herb that helps with heartburn and nausea, but also I found out that it actually can help suppress the addictive patterns, lessen some of the cravings. It may not work for some people, but it is worth the shot. Plus there is no chance for switching one habit for another 'cause they are herbal and non addictive. I hope that helps a bit. I also tried restorils for sleep. But they are another chemical and being an addict, my nemesis. Good luck.

Hey stop picking on JB, maybe if you read this forum and paid attention you would understand what everybody is talking about. If you still don't get it then maybe you can find a board that suits you and is easier to relate to.  You will find true experts on addiction here, people who didn't just read about it or hear about it but wake up to it every single day of their lives, and even in their pain they reach out to help others So read from top to bottom and then decide if this is the place for you - in the meantime stop being disrespectful to JB or to anyone else that posts here. Again, I offer nothing but an apology for my attiude. Even though this is cyberspace, I do get carried away at times. Yes, I am bitter about a lot of things presently and it shows! I want to extend to you my hand with the spirit of love, caring and just plain friendship.

I am hear to find out about why I am having such a hard time getting certain drugs, such as vicodin.  Like I said I guess I don't understand how you can get addicted on something if you don't feel anything.  I hear alot from vicodin users that they feel good.  I feel nothing, except for they take away the pain. So I guess that is why I can't understand why my neurologist has a hard time every couple of years when I ask for them, when my back goes out.  I have built a relalatioship for many years with him, like 20 and he knows me well enough that I only ask for things when I am in severe pain, I am in mild pain every day and deal with it.  It is when I can't move.  Also, I have an anxiety problem which I don't think I should have to go to a shrink to get klonapin.  I asked my MD and he gave me a security blanket of 15 which cost me the same by my insurance whether he would give me any number.  Which forces me back to the shrink, where my insurance only pays 50% of the bill.  He give me plenty.  I only take these as needed not everyday. But to your question why I am here, it is not only addicts here, maybe there are people that are related to addicts, for example my mom is an recovering alcholic and there are things I would like to know.  JB, what are you so bitter about.  Can you only relate to addicts?  There are other people that use this site for informational purposes.  Get use to it!

jb's reasons for being here and credentials have been well established for a long long time- and hardly needs to respond to your last post- which i found to be somewhat rude- if you do not like jbs comments- than i would suggest rather that as you put it-  you get used to it- this forum exists for those like yourself who is in search of information, and at the same time serves many other useful purposes as well- such as relating and communicating with others who face problems that are similiar in nature- i personally think that the good of all will be better served without introducing unwarranted antagonism into the equation- after all- when all is said and done- we all have the same goals in mind- that is dealing with the horrors that addiction has wreaked on so many lifes

vicodin is hydrocodone...with tylenol.  Read the posts on hydrocodone and you'll get the feel for how easy it is to become addicted.  If you take it everyday....you're on your way! hjp

I have taken vicodine 750 after surgery or when I had a bad tooth ache, and I never feel anything when I take it.  I am not tired, or anything.  It does ease the pain.  I choose that over demeral (don't know the spelling) when I have surgery.  I just don't understand what everyone is getting addicted to when people talk about vicodine.

Amen to hjp's comment. Hydrocodone is very addicting to some of us here. I can't understand why anyone finds benzos(e.g. Xanax)is so addicting as they simply don't hit the spot with me. What is the reason, by the way, for your being here? Do you have a problem with anything? What's the point?

I actually tried the ultram thing on advice from a article I read in a fittnes magazine. And I had mydoubt's.The person who wrote the article was detoxing from nubaine a heroin like drug popular with weightlifters. And i must say that it worked great. I had no flu like symptoms no diarea no muscle cramps nothing. Today I only took 1 pill in the AM and I feel fine no ill affects at all. As I said people do abuse them but most addicts I know start taking pill's for the high. Which ultram at low doses does not give. Well I wish all of you the best with your struggle. Anything is possible if you really want it. Or as many of you say IT IS DOABLE. Good luck and GOD BLESS                                                                                                                                                                          Jaysbean

Thank you for your response.  I have never tried Ultram but if they helped you that is great.  I have read many postings dealing with the horrors of Ultram withdrawals so as soon as you don't need them at all I'd get rid of them.   I once used Darvacet N100 to detox and that was also helpful.  The trick is to get away from the opiates all together as soon as possible which it sounds like your doing.  Again, thanks it is always so encouraging to hear a success story.  Telby

I can tell you this that I tried to detox off myself and the physical pain was to much. I live in Texas and I looked for months to find a detox place. It's hard to find. I finally found one by asking from a A.A. place. There in the phone book or by called A.A. I have to tell you mine kinda surprised me though. It lasted 5 days and hurt like hell, but I have to say the meds they gave me help a lot. I was up to about 15 pills a day and they were usually Vicodone ES 7.5 or whatever I could get. This lasted for about a year of hard use and now I have changed my life around. One last thing I attend meetings to help me like A.A. and N.A. because I know if I don't have help I'll use again. This is just a matter of time. Good luck

Lots of variables to answer that question.  What dosage are you taking?  How frequently?  For how long?  For what purpose?  It is an addictive medicine.  Opiates are also a Godsend for people in severe pain. Most other pain can medicated with nonaddictive drugs depending on what kind it is. The short answer is that if you take enough of it long enough you will be come physically dependent.  If you like the high and deliberately take it for the effects and take enough of it long enough you will become an addict. The times and amounts to reach that differ from person to person.

Each individual is different, but vicoden is nothing to mess around with.  It ranks high on the charts as being one of the most addictive drugs and is widely sold on the black market because of the addicts that cannot get it legitimately.  Be very careful taking this drug often and over a long period of time.
