addiction specialists?

does anyone have any links to where you can search for addiction specialists in your area?

i've tried google-ing it in every way shape and form I can think of without having any luck finding anyone in my area.

I live in alabama, fwiw.

I am going to meetings but would like to find a specialist to talk with one on one as well.

Thanks JT - I was thinking of University of AZ, my sis went there.  Dr. Coleman also has offices in Kentucky and VA, which would be closer.  Sorry for any confusion.  Thanks for the clarification.

Sunshine,  Glad to offer any help.  I grew up in AZ and my first sub doc was in Mesa - a quack too.  Had I known everything I know now, I would have never gone on sub and just suffered the w/d from hydrocodone - been there, done that, and sub us much worse.  If I can offer any more assistance, feel free to call on me anytime.

salsinator.
thanks so much for the link, i'll definately check it out.
i'm wide open this next summer as i will be graduating UofA.
again, i appreciate the help.

mr lucky.
i definately know what you are talking about, my 1st sub dr was a loon.  he told me sub was a miracle drug, and i would not have wdraw.  i knew more than to believe that, and as soon as he handed me my Rx i called him out on that, and then called his office after i picked up the Rx and told them i would not be back.  I have since found an informed Dr. and I will ask him to refer me to a therapist next visit.

IBkleen.
great advice, i have just started with meetings, and as much as im suprised to say this, i am actually getting something out of them... my fave mtg is not 12step oriented and i have learned so much.  i think meetings gt a bad rap bc all to often people are there for the wrong reason.  i think if your open to change and learning you can definately benefit.

Coleman sounds like he knows something about  narcotic addiction/ tolerance. Some of the quack sub docs call them selves addiction specilists because they went to a weekend seminar to perscribe sub. choose wisely.

Sunshine - just read your profile.  I saw Dr. Coleman to detox after being on Suboxone for nearly 4 years.  It works.  I see you are at UofA.  He has a couple of offices in Las Vegas as well.

Dr. Peter Coleman in Richmond, VA.  www.thecolemaninstitute.com  I completed a detox with him in June, it was the best decision that I ever made.  Email me if you want more details.

I am no where near you and can't help you out but I can suggest you ask around at your meetings. That is how I found my counselor and she turned out to be excellent. I like to have some one give me their personal experience and recommendation when it comes to that.

Good luck!
