Hi Steve
I'm afraid your doctor doesn't know what he is talking about.  Tramadol is VERY addictive and the withdrawals are horrendous.  I was taking them for 10 years (15 x 50mg a day) and am currently on Subutex beacuse I couldn't taper down or quit CT - be very careful if you decide to take them
Good luck

I switched to Tramadol from Hydrocodone because...well, hell...I switched one addiction for another. It is NOT a safe drug. It also has a built-in anti-depressant which is a double wammy when it comes to detox. W/D symptoms are not a piece of cake. Similar to other opiate meds, but I found the insomnia and minor anxiety lasted a bit longer than with Hydrocodone. But hey, what do I know? I am an addict. You are doing your research. The ultram/tramadol group on MedHelp will really help you with stopping. Best of wishes and prayers. -Randy

I am glad you asked about this and did some research.  Tramadol comes with a whole bunch of problems.  Some doctors do believe this drug is not a narcotic.  Many states are now labeling this drug as a Scheduled narcotic and rightfully so.

Ugh, I just read about it on wikipedia and it doesn't sound pretty.  It even has me scared about the effexor that I am on.  See if you can read the wikipedia before you take it.
