are bad dreams and a feeling of detachment from your old life normal?

Just a brief catch-up 3.5 years on Fentanyl for end stage hiv and a leg clot so i have had some bad times from 7 full weeks of detox including medicaly indused 6 day black out, i am on clomazepam and straight codeine still with a few oxys for bad days, i am starting to experience real sleep again but it is terrifiying beyond beliefe with the nightmares that are so real like riding in the ambulance again or being so high on the clomazepam which i am not and that i am calling people but i am not thank heaven, i feel these are possibly good signs as my brain proccesses the 7 weeks that i did not sleep for. the good part is i feel physicaly more rested and less horrible gnawing thigh pain i have had for 5 years. does this happen to others after detox with nightmares? and for how long do they last for?

While I was detoxing cold turkey I was having the most terrifying nightmares you could imagine, but after a month or so I started having normal, even pleasant dreams again.  Positive things were happening in my life though so I'm not sure how much of a role that plays in dreams...drugs or no drugs.  If crazy and stressful things are happening while you're awake it's probably going to effect your dreams at night.  I'll consult my Freud literature to see if any of his work covers insane opiate induced night terrors :)

I also did this...dreams from the past...things i didnt even know i still thought of..and they were very real it seemed...i felt very unsettled when i woke up..sometimes it would take a sec to shake myself back into the here and now and realize it was "just a dream"

OMG, i had a nightmare last night of my ambulance ride during my overdose and have been having drug dreams lately again. I know when I first quit, those dreams happened frequently and they were scary to me, but it is normal, many of us have those messed up dreams. Mine seemed to diminish after a couple months clean, but still happen the odd time, but this week has been full blown nightmares again, not sure why? They will become less and less after quitting though. Stay strong and good luck:)
