automatic pilot

i have been trying hard, but not hard enough it would seem, to stop taking opiates since 12/5/08. i did the thomas recipe  any thoughts?which was amazing and i would highly recommend it to anyone ready to try cold turkey. after about 10 days, i was on my way to the store and BAM! it was like i got thrown into the backseat of my being, and my little monster took over. ended up buying percocets instead of my intended store purchases. it was ridiculous! i had the whole clenched up stomach thing i used to get back when i was bad strung out on heroin years ago. just over a few percs! i can't seem to be left alone. whenever i am, i so easily lose control. back in december when i made my big attempt to quit, i had my doctor cut me off, thinking that would keep me in check. i told him not to call me in anything even if i begged. he has held up his end. i have tried 3 or 4 times to have him reconsider. but now i think maybe he was the lesser of 2 evils. now i am making illegal buys and putting all at risk. how do i get back in the drivers seat? i am so scared to be alone, yet i am always trying to be alone. i just want to scream! any thoughts?

First off get in the drivers seat and tell yourself i am in control now........you have a plan giving your pills to your wife.......that is good.  WD's are no fun but you will live thru them.  It takes awhile to get the poison out of your body but we need to do that.  Get some immodium also.  Push fluids and warm baths.....look at the health pages and get going on some aminos or vitamins......I took Ester C, B-6 and B-12 and still do.  Try and get some sort of exercise in even if it is walking around the house.  Sleep may be hard to get but it will come......usually around the 5th day you start to feel better.  YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!  Post your thoughts as we are here to help.........sara

I can see the desperation in your post. I can relate to the being afraid to be alone but then isolating anyway. I really feel for you. I have been wondering how to come off my methadone, but havent done a darn thing YET. You said the Thomas recipe was working. If you dont want to stay on the rollercoaster of withdrawal, then stop now. Please dont put yourself in jeopardy buying off the streets. Or you'll detox in jail and they dont give you jack for symptoms there. Take care

When I first stopped using I always took somone to the store just to keep me honest lol.  The first step is a plan you need to STOP using look on line about what will happen to you.  The hard thing is you will always have to fight the urge to use.   If you cant trust yourself you need to find a sponsor NA these groups are very supportive and always ready to help these people have been in your seat wont judge you they will help you overcome these urges and teach you ways to fight the urges on your own.  YOU DONT HAVE TO BE ALONE.....
