barbituates positive?

Recently had a tox screen and tested positive for barbiturates which is perplexing because I have no idea how or why that's in my system. Is there a reason why? Could energy drinks or alcohol mixed with my daily consumption of 10 mg Norcos, glucosamine and clariton cause this? I'm just concerned and confused as to why this is happening. I didn't even know what a barbiturate was until I tested positive. Now my doc is saying if I test positive again she'll discontinue my norco Rx and I need that for my chronic back pain.

You are having new tests ordered, as well you should be retesting the original sample. Did you give a urine sample or a blood sample?

A Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) such as ibuprofen or naproxen can cause false positives for barbiturate immunoassays.

Soma (carisoprodol) is metabolized as a barbiturate and I've also heard zoloft can, as well. I have also just read that NSAID's such as ibuprofen and naproxen can give a 0.4% false positive rate. Also; Glutethimide (Doriden), Phenytoin (Dilantin) give false positives for barbiturates.

here's a site that explains how you can get a false positive for barbiturates. You'll have to go through this long list though.
